Book Description

Feb 13 2012 Private
On your mark

Private, the world's most renowned investigation firm, has been commissioned to provide security for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Its agents are the smartest, fastest, and most technologically advanced in the world, and 400 of them have been transferred to London to protect more than 10,000 competitors who represent more than 200 countries.

Get set

The opening ceremony is hours away when Private investigator and single father of twins, Peter Knight, is called to the scene of a ruthless murder. A high-ranking member of the games' organizing committee has been killed. It's clear to Peter that this wasn't a crime of passion, but one of precise calculation and execution.

Die

Newspaper reporter Karen Pope receives a letter from a person who calls himself Cronus claiming responsibility for the murders. He promises to restore the Olympics to their ancient glory and to destroy all those who have corrupted the games with lies, corruption, and greed. Immediately, Karen hires Private to examine the letter, and she and Peter uncover a criminal genius who won't stop until he's completely destroyed the modern games. "America's #1 storyteller" (Forbes) delivers an exhilarating, action-packed thriller that brings the splendor and emotion of the Olympics to a wildly powerful climax.

2.0 out of 5 stars Terrible ending to a good book July 15 2012
By BWG
Format:Mass Market Paperback
The book was well written. The switching between 1st person and 3rd person added to the flow. Although there were many characters, the subtle reminders of who they were made it easy to remember. Although the happy ending was obvious, it was the way the very final sentence was written that ruined a good read. It's like Patterson wrote it so the book would be made into a movie with a ridiculously flashy ending. It was such a huge disappointment after enjoying turning the previous 400+ pages.
After the final chapter, the epilogue added to the disappointment. It's like Patterson now wanted to leave movie makers the option to convert the action movie to a chick-flick.

3.0 out of 5 stars Private Games April 4 2012

I have long been a fan of James Patterson. I am not a fan of sports and do not pay attention to the Olympic games, so parts of this novel were of little interest to me. There were too many characters involved for me to keep straight in my mind, and the happy ending was one I could see coming from the beginning. As usual, though, it was a good, fast paced read and kept me on the edge of my seat. The revelation of the villain was a total surprise. I would recommend this book to any of James Patterson's fans.
