Professional gunsmithing was a unexpected jewel,
By
This review is from: Professional Gunsmithing: A Textbook on the Repair and Alteration of Firearms (Hardcover)
After a little bit of research I finally came down to spending my hard earned money on this book. Upon receiving it I was at first disappointed at its general size appearance and date of origin. however after looking through it and finally reading it i was delighted to find that it had allot of really good information in it backed up with well explained and with either dimensions/simple math formulas(i mean simple)/chemical recipes (for bluing). This is the book for a medium to skilled craftsmen whom has a reasonably filled shop with tools; this book will show you how to make small tools or fixtures but assumes that you have for example a welder, lath or milling machine. Although in saying this there are quit a few things one could make and do with out all the major tools. I would buy this book again and feel that it is one of the best out there right now. ryan wright , Nov 09

I think this book is a great reference text. This book should be on the beginners as well the pro's book shopping list.It shows you how to make some useful gun smith tools, vise jaws, and how to use old Atlas lathes and Mills from the 40's. The book does not go into great detail on Lathe or Mill use but there are pictures to help guide you. You should have prior machine shop training on lathe and mills. Great Book I am glad I spent the money on it, even though the copyright is 1946 the information is timeless. K.D. 9 of 11 people found the following review helpful

This is an excellent book on the how to's of gunsmithing. It is out of date as far as numbers quoted but is an excellent reference on how to do many of the things a gunsmith will have to do in business.
