Drivers crashed my PC Jan. 20 2010
By Phil Gagner - Published on Amazon.com

I hesitated buying this as I saw the one and only review was bad, but went against my better judgement and ordered it anyway. I installed the card, booted my PC (Vista 64-bit), and Vista loaded drivers for it. I plugged in my firewire device and nothing happened (Windows didn't detect it, and my device did not seem to detect it was plugged in). The flyer that came with the card says to install the drivers even if Windows installs a native driver, so I ran the installation from the included CD. Halfway through the installation, my PC crashed (blue screen). When it rebooted, it blue screened again before going into Windows. I rebooted again, and booted from Last Known Good config, and my PC is okay again. I am returning this card as it does not appear to work with my PC.

Long story short, if you can get it to work with your PC, who knows -- it may be a great card. However, it doesn't work on mine, and apparently on one other person's, either. So, one star. Both the description on Amazon and the included documentation state it is compatible with 64-bit Vista, but apparently not on mine.

Poor Windows 7 support and performance Jan. 13 2010
By R. MCPHEE - Published on Amazon.com
Verified Purchase
I installed this card on my Windows 7 64-bit PC. The chipset is Texas Instruments and Windows 7 correctly identifies the chipset and loads the TI host driver. However, with this driver, the performance is around 1-2MB/sec which makes it unusable.

The card also bundles the Unibrain drivers (v5.62) but you can download the newer v5.63 driver from the Unibrain website. The drivers are supposed to be digitally signed but Windows Device Manager reports that they aren't and therefore won't load them: Code 52 is reported. I tried the workaround of booting Windows 7 using F8 and turning off driver verification but then Windows 7 bluescreens during boot.

I'm sure it's the driver that's the problem but don't buy this card yet if you're going to use it with Windows 7.

terrible drivers, okay hardware June 22 2010
By Christopher Seward - Published on Amazon.com
It does eventually work, once you find the right drivers, but man is it painful.

Using it with a 2nd generation drobo. Can get 60 mb/s out of it 40 sustained. so performance is okay, beter than usb2.

Do a search for "ubCore(tm) 5.70 for Windows XP/Vista/7 & 2003/2008 Server 64 bit." and you will find the correct drivers for this product
