Product Description

In the lonely years following the death of her fianc, Helen is unable to move on with her life. But life itself is moving on around her literally: the building of a dam is forcing her small town and her family home to relocate. But the construction project means more than the loss of a home. Helens brother, Robbie, who disappeared without a trace fifteen years earlier, suddenly resurfaces. As he re-enters his sisters life, he reveals the secret of why he left in the first place: a secret that tore their family apart, and affected Helens life in more ways than she ever realized. The second novel by Michael V. Smith, Progress is a stirring story of lives lost and found.

5.0 out of 5 stars compelling story, July 30 2011
This review is from: Progress (Paperback)
I loved this story. It's engaging from the first page to the last. It's intimate, I feel like I'm listening to a friend recount life events and I can't wait to know how it ends. It's a keeper and a re-read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Movie material, Jan 4 2012
By Sharon Martone "road warrior hooked on books ... - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Progress (Paperback)
This book should be made into a movie. It is intriguing from the beginning. Helen sees a man fall to his death on the first few pages and from there the story unfolds into so many underlying situations. You will notice that there are no quotation marks, so, I think, you feel and are much more sensitive to how Helen and Robert are feeling as they speak. There is a lot of emotion from each of the characters. The book is about 200+ pages and I couldn't put it down, wondering what would happen next.....and I cried when Robert and his sister had their falling out and he leaves their family home so upset. I truly enjoyed this book. I like to read books that make me think about it for days after I finished it. You can feel the sensitivity of this author on every page.
