I purchased this item several months ago. Unfortunately pineapples remained expensive for awhile, so I found other uses for it until I found a sale!
Among the other uses I found for this tool: it's great for melon. The curved blade very neatly cuts chunks of canteloupe away from the rind with little to no waste, and you can easily scoop chunks out of your watermelon half and cut them into smaller chunks.
However, today was the fateful day that I had my first pineapple to try it out on. I was excited to give it a go. It wasn't a very ripe pineapple, apparently a bit harder than this was designed for. With the very first cut, it broke. I had even removed the peel first, forgetting that this tool is supposed to do that as well.
Even if the pineapple were very ripe, I don't think that it would have gotten through the skin without failure. So, I'd recommend it for softer fruits like melons, but I don't think it can handle something hard like pineapple core/skin.

No safe way to use this pineapple corer

I love fresh pineapple, so when I saw this at the grocery store I couldn't wait to try it. I'm a big fan of Progressive products. I followed the attached instruction to the letter. I cut off the top and bottom with another knife. I cut it in half long ways. Once that is done, there is no way to position the cutter so that it is always above your fingers. So when you are coming down with this very sharp blade, your fingers are underneath. Beware this cutter.
My favorite way to cut pineapple is with a big Santoku knife. I cut off the top of the pineapple. Then I cut another 3 or 4 inch slice off. I put the bigger side down. Then I cut off the sides. If I can't use the uncut portion of the pineapple, I cover the unused portion with plastic wrap, put it on a saucer, and put it in the refrigerator.

Doesn't work, flimsy metal blade

I slice quite a bit of pineapple and was looking for a helpful tool. This didn't work. The metal blade is too flimsy for the heavy duty job of slicing through pineapple. With quite a bit of pressure and elbow grease, it barely cut through. You have to cut the pineapple manually to almost a perfect "square" before even using the tool, quite a bit of wasted fruit. The core section usually yields core in your final slice and cuts away good fruit. Messy and time consuming. Extremely dissapointing. Not even worth committing precious drawer space for. I've now since seen it at my local grocery store and Target.

Much less than expected

I purchased this product at Target after browsing the gadget aisle. Purchased a pineapple because I was so anxoious to try out my new pineapple corer. I started using this cool little tool and 1/2 way through one side of the pineapple the thin flimsy blade broke loose from the plastic piece it is attatched too. Needless to say I didn't even make it through a whole pineapple with it. Great idea, extremely poor design.
