This colander is very large, and is made of a slightly flexible, very tough plastic. The flex is nice--you can bend it with the two large handles to funnel your stuff into a smaller container, at least somewhat. You can drop it or probably even throw it against the wall (if you are so inclined!) without worrying about bending/breaking--goodbye stainless steel! It's great for just about everything--vegetables, pasta, large beans--but not for rinsing smaller beans such as unsoaked soybeans, because the holes in the sides are too large for this, and some get through. Too bad for me--I like to rinse my soybeans before soaking them, so they are soaking in clean water, before I make soymilk. Don't know why the holes in the side have to be that large...so, not perfect for my needs.
But it may be perfect for your needs--and is still great for a lot of other food rinsing and draining tasks. I would highly recommend it, with the above-mentioned caveat.
