'Promise of Eden' gave me indigestion, Sep 18 2009

This review is from: Promise of Eden (Paperback)
This romance novel is set in antebellum Virginia, circa 1850. I'd just like to quote a sample of this book. I think it will do more to prove my one-star rating than anything else I could write:
** Charles' right eyebrow shot up, and his voice filled with childish pleasure. "You're glad to be home?"
Clay's attention returned. "It's where I belong. I'm no rough-and-tumble Texan, though I enjoyed the hell out of myself while I was there. I did a lot of growing up, and now find that I'm ready to settle down and face my responsibilities."
The elder Braxton beamed. "Would this have anything to do with the lovely Eden?"
"Perhaps. Marriage to Eden would satisfy many things." Including the bulge in his pants, he added silently. Not to mention his desire to get even. **
Incredibly shallow characters, an overblown melodrama of a plot, topped with a distasteful forced sex scene between two subcharacters, made PROMISE OF EDEN a true waste of time.
