Product Description

Product Description

In this challenging and enlightening treatment, Brueggemann traces the lines from the radical vision of Moses to the solidification of royal power in Solomon to the prophetic critique of that power with a new vision of freedom in the prophets. Here he traces the broad sweep from Exodus to Kings to Jeremiah to Jesus. He highlights that the prophetic vision and not only embraces the pain of the people but creates an energy and amazement based on the new thing that God is doing. In this new edition, Brueggemann has completely revised the text, updated the notes, and added a new preface.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Intro into All of His Treasures, Nov 12 2003
By Fred W Hood "barbara377" (Fayetteville, GA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Maybe this New Edition will have a New Intro! That is one thing Sir Walter excels in as he begins any book or class or sermon! In my older copy from 1978, his Intro was written from Eden Seminary. He names his wife, Mary, "as one who ministers in prophetic ways." Not only then but she still does in her retirement. When she introduced one of Bruegge's perennial students, she refered to me as, "One of Walter's groupies!"

Not only did he write this about Mary, but Walter spoke at the Wheat Street Church in May for a Preaching Celebration. His reader and liturgist was Murphy Davis, wife of Emory Prof, Ed Loring. Bruegge knew enough about their Ministry out of their Home, the Open Door on Ponce deLeon, to speak of them as being prophetic ministers with indigents, prisoners, and homeless!
All GA Chaplains know of Murphy and Ed as ones who put feet to their prayers.

Not to miss that note in one of early Bruegge's Chapters on Prophetic Energizing! One Big quote: "The newness from God is the only serious source of Energy. The prophet must not underestimate his or her urgent calling for there are no other sources of newness." Within this great chapter, he maps out the texts, issues, sources, metaphors for a prophetic imagination!

As this chapter ends, I have listed three things I learned and I finish with, "This book is far too much to digest!" Agreed or not, I return to it often as a reminder for getiing into one of his last 75 tomes for teaching perennial students.

From review to review... Retired Chap Fred W Hood
