I Was Primarily Interested For The Pouch... July 7 2012

I was primarily interested in this for the pouch, but I'll discuss the case protector as well. First off, aesthetically, it's rather nice in that it's clear and thus will not clash with whatever color 3DS you have. Also, it obviously has Super Mario 3D Land plastered on the front, so you'd better be a fan of that game. As for performance, it fits nicely and doesn't stupidly block any ports or anything. It's certainly a good protection against scratches, but it wouldn't help against a drop (which is fair, since it specifically says it won't protect against drops). Obviously, the benefit of such a case is that it's lighter weight and slimmer than the sort that protect against falls. Obviously, it's a tradeoff depending on what is most important to you. Personally, if I only wanted to protect against scratches, I'd choose a decal (such as the one's from since that'd be even more lightweight. Overall, the case is decent for what it is.

Now, as to the pouch I was so excited about...I honestly don't know why I was so interested in it. It's very basic and not terribly firm or padded. It certainly doesn't feel very protective against drops (although it'd be fine to shield the 3DS against rubbing marks and scratches). I think I'll just stick to my firm shell cases, such as the "AmazonBasics Nintendo 3DS carrying case". As for the extra storage, the only thing inside it is a small pocket-like thing sewn into the lining that holds two games. I'm rather disappointed since this would've been a good opportunity to add a large pocket for accessories like extra styluses or more games. Overall, this is a decent enough item, but I'm looking for a bit more in my carrying cases.
Good Shell, Sub Average Pouch July 2 2012

Buy it for the Protector, forget the bag.

* Easy to apply hard case
* Lighter than comparable hard shell options
* Good grip while playing
* Easy to access ports

* Mostly just protects against scratches
* Padded case has scratchy interior feel
* Game holders have flip design, annoying

I give the hard case / shell 4 stars but the pouch isn't going to see much use. My other 3ds has 3DS Zelda Armor - Green on it and I find that one adds a bit of weight. The HORI armor is lighter and less noticeable. It snaps on in two pieces so the hinge isn't a factor, giving a lower profile. This is mostly to protect from scratches, it isn't an impact case like those made by Nerf (for example). It gets the job done. Less fingerprints, less worry about banging the system against something in my bag. So the shell is a win, and it stays on. The bag is never going to get used. It's got a nice light padding and an easy zip, but the interior cloth bugs me. While the exterior has a smooth water-repellent nylon wallet feel, the interior is a softer white feel with an odd roughness. I don't have terribly rough skin but it feels like it's catching on my fingers when I reach inside it. Sort of like an extremely cheap crane machine toy fabric. I find it unpleasant. I could shake the 3ds out but the game sleeves are sewn in tab style, requiring you to flip the tag outside of the bag to access the games. I won't use it. Too many option with a better design and hand feel. It's a shame, given an alternate lining the bag would be a perfect grab and go pouch.

I'm adding several photos to show the difference in the two armors and the bag interior.
Cute Set - Not Sold on the Bag Yet May 24 2012

If you are (or have in your household) a Mario fan, this is a nice little set. My son was excited to get this at age 12. The outer protector is clear with the Mario 3D Land artwork as a show through. There are openings for all access points (volume, charging, etc.) so it is not very different than other armors.

The pouch is bright red with blue trim but the only "Mario" imprint is a little tag on one corner. The bag has foam padding on all sides and a soft cottony lining on the inside with a slip pocket for two games. Everything fits nicely and is finished well. I'm just not sure that the average user may only want two game slots -- although it really is three since one game will be in the system. It's a great way to grab and go and a fun set but I'm not convinced if it beats out the larger, more detailed cases with extra game slots and a place to stash an extra stylus.

I really think this is more appealing to a younger gamer, maybe ages 5-10.
Mario Protector March 25 2012

Super Mario 3D Land has honestly been one of the few standout games for the Nintendo 3DS that has been completely worth the time and effort, that gamers have eagerly desired with the Nintendo 3DS. But there are still a lot of accessories coming around for the 3DS in string games, as well as gameplay alone. The HORI Super Mario 3D Land Protector works well with the 3DS, where you can easily protect the system from any damage while playing your favorite games on the go, and looks absolutely amazing with the system. It can also be easily taken off and is expendable. The pouch set though is where the problem is. Where you can store and protect 2 titles, and 1 extra DS or 3DS game if you keep it in the 3DS system, and change it when you need to swap a game for another one. It handles well, but I just honestly there was a bit more to store a lot more of the classic Nintendo DS and 3DS games.

More for looks than function July 18 2012

My daughter likes this pouch and protector on her 3DS, and they do what they're supposed to do, I guess: dress it up and help your young gamer easily spot his or her machine and gear during a chaotic playdate of Pokemon trainers. The protector easily snaps on, doesn't fall off, and the graphics are well-printed and seem durable.

The pouch is also boldly-colored, lightweight and sleek, but not really practical. It has an inner sleeve that only holds 2 games, and while there's some extra room around your console to stuff in more games or a little cash, there isn't enough room for a charger. An outer zipper pocket or wrist strap would've made this more worthy of the price.
