I was primarily interested in this for the pouch, but I'll discuss the case protector as well. First off, aesthetically, it's rather nice in that it's clear and thus will not clash with whatever color 3DS you have. Also, it obviously has Super Mario 3D Land plastered on the front, so you'd better be a fan of that game. As for performance, it fits nicely and doesn't stupidly block any ports or anything. It's certainly a good protection against scratches, but it wouldn't help against a drop (which is fair, since it specifically says it won't protect against drops). Obviously, the benefit of such a case is that it's lighter weight and slimmer than the sort that protect against falls. Obviously, it's a tradeoff depending on what is most important to you. Personally, if I only wanted to protect against scratches, I'd choose a decal (such as the one's from Decalgirl.com) since that'd be even more lightweight. Overall, the case is decent for what it is.
Now, as to the pouch I was so excited about...I honestly don't know why I was so interested in it. It's very basic and not terribly firm or padded. It certainly doesn't feel very protective against drops (although it'd be fine to shield the 3DS against rubbing marks and scratches). I think I'll just stick to my firm shell cases, such as the "AmazonBasics Nintendo 3DS carrying case". As for the extra storage, the only thing inside it is a small pocket-like thing sewn into the lining that holds two games. I'm rather disappointed since this would've been a good opportunity to add a large pocket for accessories like extra styluses or more games. Overall, this is a decent enough item, but I'm looking for a bit more in my carrying cases.
