Aerosmith At Their Best,
By Mike "Mike" (Maryland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pump (With Orig. Art) (Audio CD)
Although Permanent Vacation brought Aerosmith back to everyone's attention, it was not true Aerosmith because of outside writers the the reliance on sappy ballads like "Angel." It was simply not true Aerosmith. Pump, on the other hand, even though it still had some outside writers, was Aerosmith's BEST album. Rocks was great, but had a couple of dumb songs and a crappy power ballad. Great album where a person can listen to the entire thing without using the "skip" button. Imagine how even greater it would have been if "Deuces are Wild" had been on the instead of "My Girl" or "Don't Get Mad." Recommended for all great music fans, not just Aerosmith ones.

Goin' Commercial,
By HeadbangerDuh (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pump (With Orig. Art) (Audio CD)
Aerosmith was one of the most important bands of the 1970's hard rock/heavy metal scene. But in the early 80's, their albums sales began to slip. But the made a so-called comeback in the late eighties. But they completely abandoned the rough, raw sound for a commercial atrocity. They thought they could pull off being a glam band. Believe me, they don't have the looks for it. This ain't even rock anymore. This is just pure commercial pop/rock. This is pathetic. Janie's Got A Gun is okay, but if your'e expecting Toys In The Attic, your'e not gonna get it here.

This is my favorite cd of theirs. Even all the way thru. No dead wood or filler on this one. The production at times seems a little heavy handed, but that's the feel thru out this cd, is that it rocks, even on the power ballads. The group has always sung about women and rock, but this time they have shown a more mature side to their lyrics, with songs like MEDICINE MAN (about not taking care of earth, etc),& JAMIE'S GOT A GUN (child abuse). A great cd, worth buying.
