Book Description

Feb 24 2012
Hercules is a dachshund, who was rescued from the animal shelter by the sweet and loving Caroline. Life for this little dog would be perfect if it weren't for Caroline's new boyfriend, Thomas. Hercules and his new friend, Mr. Beck -- a tomcat and a good judge of human nature -- devise a shrewd plot to get rid of Thomas and to find a new companion for Caroline. But when things don't work out with the men that make the dachschund’s short list -- no matter how many romantic moonlight strolls he gets her to take with them -- it comes down to just one man they both might agree on . . .

5.0 out of 5 stars You are going to want more books by Scheunemann Mar 12 2012

Prepare to fall in love with Hercules as you get his puppy perspective of a human love story that is unfolding in his midst. Hercules gives spot-on insights into human nature that keep this book rollicking with fun. You will be captivated by the people in Hercules's life and, though you will not always like these compelling characters, you will be unable to put this book down until you know if romance blooms in the end. I do not consider myself a "dog lover" yet I am eager for more books in the series to be translated into English!

4.0 out of 5 stars Wasn't 100% satisfied by the storyline, but Hercules is a star! Mar 6 2012

This is a light, charming book, sure to be enjoyed by anyone who likes dogs and chick lit.

Storyline wise it wasn't as satisfying as I'd hoped: Usually in the romcom/chicklit book I hope for an ending that seems inevitable but the getting there is a lot of fun, or for something that is surprising, but in retrospect feels inevitable - a "how did I not see that coming?" moment.

Puppy Love, for me, ended more with a "huh? Oh, OK..." Not a let-down exactly, but it didn't feel as satisfying as I would have liked. It also left one rather important character hanging, which I felt was a shame.

The plotline, then, could be tighter to avoid the "yerwhat?" ending, but it's a minor niggle rather than a "grrr, throw the book against the wall" moment. Overall, it's very sweet, there are several human characters who are interesting (though not all of them are likeable!), and Hercules and his pal Mr Beck are absolutely brilliant - winning, funny, cute, adorable.

Overall, thoroughly recommended for anyone who enjoys a light, romantic, amusing read, particularly if you have any good feelings about dogs!

This was an adequate, quick read with a pretty predictable story. I would not race to get hold of it.
