1.0 out of 5 stars This is not Scorpions! Mar 21 2004

Apart from the first song, this is not even a Rock album. They may attract some Britney Spears fans with this album . They should change their names to "The Butterflies'. Listen to their old stuff, it is damn good! Actually, Their last two albums Unbreakable and Humanity Hour is a return back to shape, although not groundbreaking.

2.0 out of 5 stars Some good songs but boring and lacks power May 13 2004
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Some of the songs on this album are ok, like "You and I" and "But the Best For You", but overall this lacks the power of the Scorpions. If you think regular Scorpions ballads are too hard for you then this might be for you, otherwise you should look at their older releases, like "Blackout" and "Love at First Sting".

2.0 out of 5 stars The Scorpions Have Lost Their Sting Feb 23 2010
By LeBrain HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
I remember being very excited when this album came out due to the powerful first single "Wild Child". I had enjoyed previous Scorpions albums well enough -- Face The Heat, Live Bites -- due to some great singles. Pure Instinct, however, is ballad-ridden dreck with no energy and no inspiration.

The band employs a session drummer (Curt Cress) and sound like they are on autopilot. Approximately half the album is ballads! This gives you, the ballad-loving listener, almost half an hour of ballads. The single "You And I" alone is over 6 minutes long! Most of the rest of the tracks are flat, dull, and uninspired.

The few highlights include the first single "Wild Child", the uptempo "Stone In My Shoe", and the ballady-but-still-decent "Where The River Flows". And that is about it.

The single for "You and I" had a rocking B-side called "She's Knocking At My Door" which although it was a rocker was also pretty bland.

It would only get worse -- the next Scorpions album Eye II Eye has been likened to Savage Garden!

2 stars. Avoid unless you want to buy it for the three good songs.
