Product Description

Blu-ray Pure Audio Discs: No Compression, No Compromise. Blu-ray Pure Audio Discs Offer True High-Resolution 24-bit/96kHz Audiophile Sound. Universal Music Group has gone back to the original master tapes to deliver fully uncompressed, high-resolution versions of many of your favorite albums on Blu-ray Pure Audio Disc. Mastered at 24bit/96kHz, Blu-ray Pure Audio Discs deliver the sound the artists originally heard in the studio when these classic albums were recorded. These discs provide all the recorded musical information. While convenient due to their small file size, today's heavily compressed music files do not represent the true fidelity of the original album. Recordings are transferred from the original master tapes and delivered in high-resolution 24-bit/96kHz audio. No compression is utilized, and the sound quality is vastly superior to MP3 or standard CD. Three separate choices of audio file format for playback: PCM 2.0, Dolby True HD, or DTS-HD Master Audio (5.1 available where noted). Your preferred audio format is chosen either by pressing the "Audio" button on your Blu-ray remote or via your onscreen menu display.

Nina's Spell Feb. 17 2007
By Marcus S. Parrish - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Nina Simone can be considered an acquired taste--like black coffee, fine brandy, or good cigars. With a voice that's less than perfect, she's nevertheless full of passion and pain, joy and raunchiness in her music. This album covers all those emotions set against the background her of well-arranged orchestration and her exceptional skill as a pianist.

Nina is a genre all her own. Her style varies broadly--from blues to jazz to gospel to folk and political music. This album is not a showcase that variety, merely one facet of it. This album has more of a fun feel to it than some of her other recordings--with songs like 'Marriage is for Old Folks' and 'Gimme Some' as well as the child-like 'Beautiful Land.' Nina is certainly no idealist, though, showing her passion and her pain in songs like 'Ne Me Quitte Pas' and 'You've Got to Learn.'

For Nina fans, this album is a nice break away from some of her moodier, darker work. For those just discovering Nina, this album would be an excellent way to ease into acquiring the taste for her music--splashing a little cream into one's black coffee, as it were.

As a dedicated fan of Nina's musical uniqueness, I've found this to be a very pleasant album that's just right for lifting the stresses of day away and losing myself in a little bit of fun.

Identity Music Feb. 10 2010
By M. Mason - Published on Amazon.com

One thing that sets artists like Nina Simone apart is their overwhelming sense of identity on everything they do. This is an album that, I admit shallowly, I bought for only two songs on it, not being familiar with the other songs. Listening to the whole album though it's obvious why Nina has been so active and so popular for so long. Each song is it's own style and vibe but it's all so Nina in essence that if you like her artistry, you'll love it from top to bottom. I really enjoyed this album. Standouts being "I put a spell on you" and "Feeling Good" two personal favorites.

An experience in versatility Sept. 11 2009
By Nicholas Alesso - Published on Amazon.com

The CD "I Put A Spell On You" is my personal favorite by Nina Simone due to its tremendous versatility. While "Colors Of the Rainbow" is as gentle and beautiful enough to be played to pre-school or kindergarten students, "Gimme Some" is Nina at her rowdiest, sexiest best. While "One September Morn" imparts sentimental beauty and sweetness, "You've Got to Learn" provides a driving primer in perseverence and emotional survival. Nina's version of the title song was the first I heard. It has helped me appreciate earlier ones. I love this collection.

Nina Simone, True Diva! May 7 2012
By WJR - Published on Amazon.com

Recently bought this album by curiosity because my Mother owned a copy in her music collection. May I say I was blown away by the delivery of the songs by Nina Simone. These are not Girlie Girl lyrics, nor is the singer a Girlie Girl. These are songs sung by a Strong Woman, Period.

Hello again, Nina! Dec 29 2012

In the world of vinyl, she was queen of jazz singers. She was so politically incorrect, she was scary to many. Yet Ms Simone filled the Village Gate at a mere whisper of her appearance ANY night. Though she died an ex-patriot, she was a personal hero to me. Nina fought in song for all we take for granted today. IN CONCERT tells that story. I PUT A SPELL ON YOU is about love, heartbreak, and all that stuff in between - reminding me what a sweet & funny soul we lost to Europe.
