Celebrated for his brilliantly quirky insights into the physical world, Nobel laureate Richard Feynman also possessed an extraordinary talent for explaining difficult concepts to the general public. Here Feynman provides a classic and definitive introduction to QED (namely quantum electrodynamics), that part of quantum field theory describing the interactions of light with charged particles. Using everyday language, spatial concepts, visualizations, and his renowned "Feynman diagrams" instead of advanced mathematics, Feynman clearly and humorously communicates both the substance and spirit of QED to the layperson. A. Zee's new introduction places both Feynman's book and his seminal contribution to QED in historical context and further highlights Feynman's uniquely appealing and illuminating style.

Fine Physics from Feynman,
By J. Gray "Quantum Snark" (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: QED: The Strange Theory of Light and Matter (Paperback)
Feynman offers yet another spirited elaboration on how those otherwise-inaccessable properties of reality work. Quantum Electrodynamics (QED), the study of how light and matter work, is beautifully introduced by physics' "Great Explainer". As opposed to much popular science, QED requires a touch more dedication in grappling, and while the material may seem unfathomably dense at points, the work is nevertheless a remarkably engrossing read.

Feynman never disappoints,
This review is from: QED: The Strange Theory of Light and Matter (Paperback)
I have no formal training in physics other than what we were forced to do in High School so getting through the first chapter of this book was a difficult feat. However, once I read through the second chapter, I was amazed at the sheer amount of new information I was able to process and understand. This doesn't mean this book is for everyone, but anyone with a curious mind and is determined to read through will be profoundly rewarded by Feynman's top grade teaching style.

Just blows your mind,

This review is from: QED: The Strange Theory of Light and Matter (Paperback)
To be able to read a book which is able to teach its reader the wonder of light which we ordinary people just take for granted, to find out how it is possible for you get all those colours in bubbles and the diffraction of cd's just blew my mind and how light acts as it travels through glass. Ordering the book I didn't think I would find this book a great as it was, if you're a person who loves to know the world and how it is just read this book. But I would like to worn you that you will need to openly trust what this man says in order to understand it he says he is just telling you how it really is and its up to you to believe it.
