Book Description

June 22 2011
A love foretold between sworn enemies will determine the fate of Christendom. Bradamante, the niece of Charlemagne, and Ruggiero, a Saracen knight descended from Hector of Troy, are renowned warriors who meet and fall in love on a battlefield before being separated. This tale of impossible love is set against the backdrop of a holy war between Islamic and Christian armies shown in bloody sieges in Marseille and Paris. Other legendary heroes such as Orlando and Renaud de Montauban are featured in this saga of chivalry, secret romances, betrayal, revenge, and magic. The story is adapted from the classic, but largely forgotten, epic poems "Orlando innamorato" and "Orlando furioso" written during the Italian Renaissance. QUEST OF THE WARRIOR MAID should appeal to fans of Arthurian legend, medievalists, Francophiles and Italianophiles. "Classic in its theme of young, idealistic lovers from opposing camps, it sheds a bright light on the culture, history and legends of a time and place too little explored by most western readers." - Persia Woolley, author of the acclaimed Guinevere Trilogy "McCabe paints a vivid portrait of Medieval France whose vestiges can still be found in the streets of modern Paris." - Cara Black, author of the Aimée Leduc mystery series and MURDER IN PASSY "A grand and engaging re-telling of the original 'star crossed lovers' epic with everything Orlando - chivalry, romance, fights to the death, hippogriffs, madness, and beauty!" - John Granger, author of UNLOCKING HARRY POTTER

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read, couldn't put it down. Oct. 3 2011

I came across this through an unrelated search and bought it because I like mythology but was unfamiliar with this tale. Once it was on the kindle, neither my wife nor I could put it down. I can't find any other books by this author on Amazon but we will be watching. If you like historical fiction and/or mythology, you will love this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars by Gay Barner May 18 2014

Quite unexpectedly, I was completely engaged in the battles, the romance, the characters, the adventures, and the lore from the start of reading the Quest of the Warrior Maiden. I don't know this genre so my complete entanglement was a surprise. But what a pleasant surprise to be surrounded by this magical world of epic characters who retain some of their human traits of hunger, thirst and passion. The tale is told eloquently in a style that fits the period but very understandable. I can not wait for the sequel then I know I will be waiting for whatever Linda writes next. I am hooked!

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down July 19 2012

Usually when I read a book outside of my genre (mystery) I get bored after a point and wonder where the mystery is. This book had me from the start and I couldn't put it down. The characters, the adventure, the love story, it all comes together to make a great book. This is volume one of what I hope will be an epic series that Ms. McCabe continues writing for a long, long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most Italian writer among the American ones Feb. 9 2014
By Gabriele Addario - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is quite a surprise: an American writer who knows this Medieval period so well. I can tell the writer know more than many Italian literature teachers, because of her trips around the European Mediterranean part. It's a highly poetic story and the reader is carried away by the sounds and the colours of the adventure. Thanks Linda.

Grazie Linda.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review written by my grandmother Marisa Zanibelli Centra Oct. 13 2013
By marco ferrara - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
What a surprise! An American writer tells the epic of Charlemagne’s chilvary us in an English language quite easily understood also by foreigners. The reader will recall the school lessons about Ariosto and Boiardo (“Orlando furious” and “Orlando in love”) and will enjoy following the adventures of so many characters: beautiful maidens (also valiant in battle) knights fighting for the Christian Charlemagne or the Muslim Akramont, and also magic legends. All this in a Europe as it should have been in the eighth-ninth century.
I enjoyed reading this novel and am looking forward to the following of the love story between Bradamante and Ruggiero in a new forthcoming novel, as promised by the writer.
