Product Description

I am not a trained chef, I grew up learning to cook from a mother & grandmother that were both really good southern cooks. Now that I'm older I've become a Food Network junkie. I've tweaked recipes from dozens of chefs, restaurant owners, kitchen cooks and celebrities. What you have here, after countless hours of viewing and experimenting in the kitchen is a compilation of some of my favorite recipes... the ones that family & friends enjoy.

20 quick and easy dinner recipes that I have spent over 10 years perfecting; Included are 5 recipes for Chicken, Fish, Pasta and Beef. The beef section could also be called dinners and sides for game night.

If you live a busy lifestyle the last thing you need to worry about is "What's for supper?" These 20 quick and easy recipes for dinner will help you answer that question.

Each recipe included has been tested over and over again until friends and family ask for these by name. I love to cook but I also love to spend time doing other things. This cookbook with give you the best of both worlds...great food tasting food and more time to relax and spend with the people you care about the most. Enjoy

This review is from: 20 Quick and Easy Dinner Recipes (Quick and Easy Recipes) (Kindle Edition)
20 Quick and Easy Dinner Recipes (Quick and Easy Recipes) is one of the most oddly written and formatted cookbooks I've read recently. This Kindle cookbook starts off with a recipe for Lemon Chicken Breasts which is written in this format:

Lemon Chicken Breasts
Another easy chicken recipe that you should have in the oven within 15-20 minutes of getting started. This recipes if for 4 breasts. If you are cooking more chicken, get out you calculator and adjust accordingly.

1/4 cup of extra virgin olive oil (this is a recipe that good olive oil is important)
3 tablespoons of minced garlic from a jar (or chop about 9 cloves)
The zest of 2 large lemons (the zest is where the flavor is)
And then 2-3 tablespoons of the juice from those lemons

1 1/2 teaspoons of dried oregano
1 teaspoon of minced thyme (with dried seasonings, always grind them in your palm to kinda' wake it back up and release the oils & flavor)

Sea salt & black pepper
An extra lemon
4 large boneless chicken breasts, skin on

And now do the following:

Preheat oven to bake at 400 degrees F...

There is more to this recipe but this should give you a general idea of how poorly written and out-of-standard recipe formatting this cookbook is written.

Also, the author seems to have difficulty with word choices as if I remember right the words if and is were used incorrectly.

Overall, this is not a cookbook written for cooks who need to get dinner on the table in a hurry as the recipes are written in non-standard format making it difficult to quickly prepare a meal.

Also, the writing could be better and as another reviewer wrote you could probably find similar recipes online.

Recommend with caveats given.

"This recipe book includes recipes that I have prepared and made my own changes to over the years" writes Julie Denis' in her introduction to 20 Quick and Easy Dinner Recipes (Quick and Easy Recipes). Grandma does have to agree with her about making her own changes.

Every recipe that Grandma checked seems to have started out at the Food Network before Julie fiddled with them and changed this and that. Her Lemon Chicken Breasts recipe is identical to Ina Gartens - minus the wine. Roasted Mayo Chicken Breasts are almost - but not quite - Roasted Spicy Mayo Chicken Breasts by the Deen Brothers, from Paula's Best Dishes Cookin' episode. Citrus-Garlic Roasted Chicken is quite nearly Claire Robinson's from her 2009 5-Ingredient Fix Lunch Box episode.

Some (many) of Julie's changes are minimal - using 1/2 a teaspoon of spice rather than the whole teaspoon called for. Others, like leaving the wine out of Ina's Lemon Chicken Breasts dish, will certainly change the dish. Still others, like the changes she made to the Oven Fried Chicken recipe from Paula Deen's Dine with The Deens episode of Paula's Best Dishes, are more problematic - or at least wasteful. In that recipe she doubles the amount of mustard used to coat the chicken breasts before breading them, which will result in either quite some bit to throw away or way too much mustard on the chicken.

The book does contain an interactive Table of Contents listing every recipe that properly interfaces with the Kindle Navigation Menu.

Your call.

2. Roasted Mayo Chicken Breasts
3. Citrus-Garlic Roasted Chicken
4. Oven Fried Chicken
5. Oven BBQ Chicken
6. Blackened Catfish
7. Creole Catfish and Tarter Sauce
8. Pan Seared Mahi Mahi with Zesty Basil Butter
9. Fish Tacos
10. Salmon Baked in Foil
11. Lemon Pasta with Roasted Shrimp
12. Easy Lemon Pasta with Chicken
13. Simple, but Good Pasta with Red Sauce
14. Whole Wheat Spaghetti with Tomato/Basil/Garlic
15. Beef Mac & Cheese

I like the book teaches quick and easy substitutions, such as using yellow mustard rather than dry mustard powder. Most of the recipes use ingredients that most houses already have in stock such as ketchup, brown sugar, and honey, and the author nicely explains how to make each recipe and the reasons for some of the steps, such as why it is useful to refrigerator the meat for meatloaf for one hour before cooking it.

I highly recommend this book, but again, feel that it would be easier to enjoy in hard cover rather than electronically so that different recipes can be referenced more quickly.
