This review is from: Quicken Home and Business 2010 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
As with every new Quicken release, the value add from the previous release is marginal. I've been a Quicken user for over 10 years. You always have to get used to the new interfaces and tool bars and you're never sure of how to leverage any new functionality. There's a new profit /loss reporting filter that was tricky to work with. My previous business rental income categories couldn't be detected by the filter, and I have to do a new assigment of each category to these new tax lines. There were revenue rental tax line choices, but the profit /loss report filters didn't seem to pick these up? Email Tech support attempted to be helpful and responsive, but it took some trial and error to understand their recommmendation which in the end was not intuitive. Nonetheless, Quicken is still better than using pencil, paper, and stand alone spreadsheets to keep track of your finances.

Quicken 2010,

Quicken Home and Business 2010I have been using Quicken 2000 for over 10 years and found it more than adequate for what I do but felt it time to upgrade (couple of features didn't work the way they should). I find Quicken 2010 interface more difficult to use, but I am sure I will become accustomed to it. There are a couple of features that were much easier to use in 2000 versus 2010 but after spending over a $100 for a program I guess I will have to get used to them. Is the program worth the $109? Not in my books, but it does do things the Canadian way which the freebees don't seem to be able to do and it is the only available alternative since Microsoft packed up Microsoft Money.

A Necessary Evil, At Best,

This review is from: Quicken Home and Business 2010 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
Quicken is a terrible program for most users. Most people need a simple, reliable, easy to use program that will keep track of personal expenses so that they can balance their check books and pay their taxes. Quicken does not meet those needs because it tries to do too much. Quicken is not simple, it is not reliable and it is not easy to use. It is bulky, clunky and full of features which almost no one wants or needs, and which only get in the way. Several new versions of Quicken are released each year, for no reason other than to give Intuit something new to sell. And, if you upgrade, good luck getting your old file transferred into the newer version. I would gladly switch to another program, but for the fact that my information is already in Quicken and transferring that information would be somewhat difficult. And, in the end, Quicken does what it is designed to do. It just does not do it very well.
