Review Source: Professional Quilter Online Review Date: 2/23/11 Review Content:As long as I'm on a modern theme, I took a look at Quilts Made Modern by Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr, founders of Fun Quilts, a contemporary quilt design firm. The book includes excellent material on design and how to consider all the elements (or layers) of the quilt. The authors offer tips on using fabrics in particular designs. I loved their tip for looking for fabric in your stash at an online retailer to see how the color looks with fabrics you are considering purchasing. The book includes complete instructions for making 10 quilts. What I also found valuable was the discussion on why particular fabric and quilting choices work with each quilt.
The photography in this quilt book is visually stunning and many of the quilt designs are gorgeous. The emphasis is on color, hue, and scale. The authors' design principles are fully explained in detail. It is quite evident that the authors are quilting and color theory teachers by the way they explain each step so thoroughly from beginning to end in the quilt-making process. An excellent book for a beginner who is not particularly interested in quilts that look like their granny made them, although as an intermediate-level traditional quilter, I appreciated some of the hints and refreshers in techniques and color theory. Many of the quilt designs intrigue me and some may become my projects at some point. The Design Notes after each quilt pattern and the three additional color variations per quilt further caught my attention. This book is a classic modern jewel. Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr enjoy writing about quilt design, as well as planning and making quilts together. Bill is the master pattern designer and diagram king, while Weeks enjoys writing the text and demystifying the design process for readers.

I love everything about this book...easy to follow instructions, colour options for each quilt, great hints and fabulous modern designs. Normally there are just 1 or 2 patterns in a book that I fall in love with, but this had 10 wonderful, up to date ideas. The only thing missing to make this my best quilting book purchase is a spiral binding.

Another Quilt Book
I was disapointed with this book, I thought there would be more ideas for the use of 'Ethnic' fabrics, not much differenrt to the dozens of Quilt Books I already own.
