Product Description

Product Description

Ever wondered why bad musicians always win the Eurovision Song Contest, or how incompetent politicians get elected? You need some Quirkology in your life. While other scientists beaver away on obvious problems, Richard Wiseman has been busy uncovering the secret ingredients of charisma, exploring how our personalities are shaped by when we are born, and examining why people usually miss the obvious signs of their partners infidelity. Using scientific methods to investigate offbeat topics that interest the general public, as well as the scientific community, Quirkology brings a new understanding to the backwaters of the human mind and takes us to places where mainstream scientists fear to tread.

About the Author

Richard Wiseman is Britain's only professor for the Public Understanding of Psychology and has an international reputation for his research into unusal areas including deception, luck, humour, and the paranormal.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Quirks of Human Behaviour, Oct 21 2010
By G. Poirier - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Quirkology: The Curious Science of Everyday Lives (Paperback)
It would be difficult to list the myriad of psychology experiments described by the author in this truly eye-opening and wide-ranging book. But here is a very small sample: searching for the funniest joke in the world, testing whether an average 4-year-old child can outperform experts in investing in the stock market, examining how one's name and one's date of birth can influence one's life, how people can remember things that never happened, detecting lies, testing people's honesty under various conditions, etc., etc. As demonstrated in this book, the human mind does indeed work in unexpected and seemingly mysterious ways. The author, a psychology professor, has a writing style that is very friendly, accessible and captivating. I found the book very hard to put down. This is a book that can be enjoyed by anyone who is fascinated by the odd quirks of human behaviour.
