1. Idle Chatter Junior
3. Looking Back
4. Heavy Set
5. Dancetracks: Remix
The title track, 'Ride', is a 19 minute piece made from sounds of a highway, processed and filtered to create sweeping sonic landscapes. An 8 channel version of the piece was played at Lincoln Center's 'Great Day in New York' festival in January 2000. It's a descendent of my earlier piece, 'Night Traffic.' (On the CD 'Homebrew').
The first track, 'Idle Chatter Junior', is the latest addition to my family of chatter pieces, a complex rhythmic texture, made from the sounds of voices and instruments. I think it's the best of the breed.
'Looking Back' is a short paraphrase of the famous tune from Brahms' first symphony, and was featured on Napster.
'Heavy Set' is an algorithmic piece which attempts to emulate a jazz pianist with a very fast right hand.
'Dancetracks: Remix', is a remix of a piece I made with Steve Mackey 'Dancetracks', that appears on his CD 'Lost and Found'
Hope you enjoy it all. Paul Lansky
