Book Description

Rabbit Ears Treasury of Storybook Classics Volume 1 features timeless and clever characters--read by your favorite stars and featuring original music by some of today's greatest artists.

Pecos Bill
Read by Robin Williams
Original Music by Ry Cooder

Join in some Wild West escapades with the original cowboy, Pecos Bill. Raised by coyotes, Pecos rides his wild mustang, invents the first rough-and-tumble cattle drive, and mounts a runaway cyclone to create the Great Salt Lake.

Puss in Boots
Read by Tracey Ullman
Original Music by Jean Luc Ponty

When his dearly departed father leaves him only a tomcat, Claude feels short-changed and tries to do away with his feline inheritance. The cat, however, devises a plan to save himself by promising to transform his owner into a noble prince.

From AudioFile

Two classics feature well-loved comedians. In the first, Robin Williams adopts the voice of an old cowboy telling the story of Pecos Bill. Backed by the lively music of Ry Cooder, Williams lets loose with energetic vocal antics, whether hes dropping his false teeth mid-story or describing Bill and his coyote family. Puss in Boots, the story of a clever feline who transforms his master into a prince, is read by Tracey Ullman. Her voice shifts easily from the cool British tones in the narrative to over-the-top French accents in the dialogue. Both stories are fun to listen to, and rich with the literary and auditory detail of the Rabbit Ears series. J.C.G. © AudioFile 2007, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine

We first listened to Rabbit Ears Radio when my 21 year old daughter was about 5 years old on NPR radio. Our whole family fell in love with the program. Pecos Bill is one of our favorites- my 16 year old can quote lines at random. Robin William is at his best and it is hard to imagine this story without his ad-libbing to bring it to life. Tracy Ullman is also fantastic for Puss-in-Boots. I wish they were still making more of them! I bought this for my nephew, now 5, and I purchased another copy for my daughters to have. It is great for the whole family to listen to at quiet time or on rides in the car. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Clever Feline and a Brave Cowboy!!, April 25 2011

I have been busy trying to collect all of the Rabbit Ears stories from the "Rabbit Ears Treasury" series since I have been a huge fan of the Rabbit Ears series ever since I was a child. Now, I have finally bought the Rabbit Ears Treasury of Storybook Classics featuring "Pecos Bill" and "Puss in Boots."

In "Pecos Bill," America's best cowboy comes up against cyclones and starting the cattle drive! Robin Williams was brilliant in narrating this tale as his narration is full of good humor and excitement! My favorite dialogue that is narrated by Robin Williams is when Pecos Bill meets up with a rough cougar who starts talking in a modern dialect. Ry Cooder's western inspired music was clearly entertaining to hear and goes beautifully with the story.

In "Puss in Boots," everyone's favorite feline hero tries to help his master become a king without being eaten. Tracey Ullman has done an excellent job at narrating this French folktale as she uses both a French accent and an English accent to tell this story which truly brings out the creativity in this story. Jean Luc Ponty's elegant music is clearly beautiful to listen to and also goes extremely well with the story.

All in all, "Storybook Classics: Pecos Bill and Puss in Boots" is a true classic audiobook that children will listen to over and over again while they are in car rides or listening to the series during bedtime.
