The first one I got was "Color Screen Tetris," which was a very satisfactory game UNTIL one of the little blocks on the bottom of the screen burned out ... and then another. And ALSO, Color Screen Tetris sucks down batteries like there's no tomorrow.
Next it was the "Radica Handheld Game Tetris." What a piece of junk. I tossed it in a matter of days, and you can read my review to see why, if you like. DON'T waste your time and money on it.
Finally I settled on THIS game: Radica's "Big Screen Tetris." I'm getting ready to purchase another one for the third of fourth time. Don't get me wrong, it's not poorly made, I just play it so much that eventually one of the buttons wears out. The battery life is great. You can use it in a dark room thanks to the green light that will illuminate the screen, but it's better if you just find a good overhead light to play it under. As a Tetris junkie, I'm happiest with this model.
All the buttons for rapid drops, turning tiles and so on are here. This hand held has it all except for an off switch. It turns off after one minute of inactivity which is ok but I would rather it had a switch so I could pack it without having to get the batteries out. Speaking of batteries, it recommends that you only use regular batteries, not rechargeable ones which kind of surprised and then worried me but I have been playing for a long time now and haven't had to replace the ones it came with so it doesn't seem to suck them dry fast at all (and I have played it a lot). It also tells you when you have the high score but there isn't a menu to enter a name so you can't go head to head with anyone and have the game track it, but then who wants to share anyway lol.
Right after sending off the defective game, I saw the game was back in stock and decided to chalk the first one up to an isolated lemon. Upon buying the second game and having it shipped out, we received it a couple days later. Immediately after opening the shipping box, it was noticed that the game packaging looked different than the first and that it had been stapled back together. After opening the box, and pulling the game out, it was noticed that there were scratches on the game face, the buttons had the ink worn down, and overall looked and felt used. We had been sold a "New" product, but in fact, were shipped a very used product. I immediately initiated another Amazon refund and will not buy another one of these games.
We were about to return this product back but I really wanted to keep this toy in the family (no replacement option was available to us). My 5 yo daughter loves playing the game. My husband was an electronics technician and knows how to fix various types of electronic devices. He found that one of the wires was not properly connected. He said the soldering was still intact and that there was no way that he could connect the wire with the soldering on. So he had to remove the soldering and then connect it.
It works properly now but just beware that you might have the issue we had.
