Works with ipad 2 with smart cover, Mar 31 2011

The Irest stand provides a stable, comfortable base for an ipad 2 while sitting or reclining. The ipad 2 with a smart cover opened and behind the ipad 2 fits securely in the irest. The stand raises the ipad up about six inches making it easier to see than other "lap stands" I have seen. A well made product I can recommend.

Ugly Duckling, May 31 2011

This is an ugly, awkward-looking piece of equipment. But it works astonishingly well. It lifts the iPad about 4 inches, and allows for an infinitely adjustable reading angle.
The only downside is that I have to take the iPad out of its case to use the iRest. The original iPad Apple case fits in but only if I don't fold the cover behind. So a back cover only "skin" might fit.
But I'm sitting here in my Lazy Boy typing this post, on my iPad which is sitting in the iRest, which is perched on my lap. Works fine. And it doesn't fall over when I shift my position.

Almost perfect but . . ., Sep 21 2011

I love this stand, I really do. For the reasons stated in the other reviews posted before today (Sept 21,2011). But, regrettably, there is one manufacturing flaw. The roller that fits on the bottom front of the stand splits at the edges where the stand is inserted into the roller. I've bought two of these and they both had this same problem. This happened within several weeks of both purchases. I hope Rain Design fixes this flaw. If they do, then the iRest deserves five stars!
UPDATE - I contacted Irest and they sent replacement rollers.
