great adventure novel,

Im really into adventure novels and this one really satisfied me. I never found myself asking the question: "should i stop reading this?" at anytime. It never got dull and i liked the whole concept...it put me in a pensive state. Great book, you feel connected to the characters and events that were described really illustrated vivid scenery in my mind. I just really liked it.

Raising Atlantis is Thomas Greanias first novel and although there was a lot of hype surrounding its release in paperback form (since it first came out as an e-book) the book somewhat falls short. First of all, the characters are all one dimensional and sometimes even corny. The book completely lacks symbolism as the mains characters seem empty and stereotyped. Right from the beginning, the author explains their profound motivations so there is a complete lack of intrigue. Also, I am an archaeologist, so I was quite amused once again by the popular belief that archaeologists know everything about every culture in the world. The main character is an Egyptologist and at the same time a Mesoamerican specialist! I mean common, I expected more realism from Greanias especially since he had supposedly done quite a lot of research. What was even funnier was the ability of Dr Conrad to calculate angles and astrological alignment without the aid of any computer. Now that's fiction! At least the plot is interesting but then again, It seam as though the author watched too many times the NBC special ''Atlantis, the search for the lost continent'' that aired in 1996. Mister Thomas Greanias, you can't just watch a documentary and read a couple of book, use their content as background, invent a few empty characters and call it a book. I was quite disappointed by this book. But even with all its flaws, it's still not bad. It's entertaining. Period. And that's what I think was disappointing, especially since it's based upon facts that question the true origins of our race. Read it to be entertained and don't expect anything else.

Worst book I ever read,

Where do I start? This book was so bad I can't believe Greanias actually got somebody to publish it. The story is ridiculous, the characters cornball, the dialogue immature, the action impossible and I couldn't even bring myself to read the last couple of chapters. The whole time I DID read it, I kept envisioning the story in a kind of "Airplane" sort of way...I could just see Leslie Nielsen as Yeats...that's the older Yeats, not the younger Conrad Yeats...confusing! And what about Sister Spaghetti or was it Serengeti...dumb! "That's DOCTOR Spaghetti, not SISTER"..."I AM serious, and stop calling me Shirley"(I picked this up in the grocery store because I had run out of reading material and just needed something. It caught my eye because I had written a paper about the Atlantis myth in college. It was on sale for [...]...money I will never get back.) OK, let's see, what else, ridiculous statements like "you're thinking with the wrong head" with absolutely no related context, the whole story takes place in Antarctica, but they have no problem with the cold after P-4 (named in 2 seconds after discovery) is found; there is no trouble uncovering this discovery although how they got all the excavating equiment there is beyond me, Conrad can figure out how everything works and where everything is better than McGuyver ever did, Serengetti can read Atlantian like she's been reading the language all her life, it's freezing cold but there are waterfalls running and waterways all over the place and Conrad can swim in the water without DYING, Yeats can fall down into bottomless pits but not DIE...need I go on...what drivel, what lack of talent, what crap!
