Product Description

From Amazon.co.uk

By the time Joseph (Run) Simmons, Daryl (DMC) McDaniel and Jam Master Jay (Jason Mizell) released their third album, 1986's Raising Hell, they'd already made hip-hop history by releasing the first real hip-hop album (their self-titled debut). This album eclipsed that--and then some. It's hard to imagine now the impact of Run DMC's team-up with Aerosmith for "Walk That Way"; more than revitalising the ageing rockers careers, it made the Hollis, Queens-based trio rap's first superstars and changed the way that rock, pop and rap were classified forever. The album is no one hit wonder, though--packed with classics like "It's Tricky", "Peter Piper", "You Be Illin'" and "My Adidas", it's an absolute classic. --Randy Silver

--Jean-Eric Perrin

5.0 out of 5 stars Run DMC, Jun 29 2004

You want to listen to real hip-hop? Not the stuff that calls itself rap and hip-hop music that is all over the radio and MTV but real, honest, fun hip-hop? Then you need to not look any further then Run DMC.
I am not a big fan of rap, but I am a big fan of this disc. With only two MC's and one DJ(the late, great Jam Master Jay), "Raising Hell" is as full and real as any record you are likely to hear. These guys didn't need any big, elaborate porduciton to make you like their record, nor did they need fake bravodo and machoism. All they need is a crate of records and two mics with some of the best rhymes you are liable to hear.
I mean, go down the list. "It's Tricky", "Peter Piper", "Walk this Way", "My A.d.i.d.a.s.", "Porud to be Black". There isn't a song on here that isn't cool and worth listening to on repeat.
If you like your hip-hop with trite lyrics about jewlery, fast cars, gangsta stories that are stale and dull, then you should not buy "Raising Hell". But if you like music that is fun to listen to as well as interesting, then "Raising Hell" is for you. Screw genre. This is just a great album.

Never has there been a group that has made me think "damn these guys are good" more than Run D.M.C. Raising hell is the peak of their career. This album was a true groundbreaker in hip hop, I keep asking my self "where would we be without "Raising Hell"?
My favorite track is Walk this way with Steven Tyler of the vocals. A definite staple in any rock or hip hop fans collection, get it now!

5.0 out of 5 stars PHENOMENAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!, April 15 2004

Run-DMC did it again with the release of their third album, Raising Hell. If their first two albums didn't put them on the map, then this one CERTAINLY did. It set all kinds of historical precedence for hip hop(and music in general), the likes of which will NEVER be matched again. Run, DMC, and Jam Master Jay returned with gusto with this album, proving to everyone that their success was no fluke, and it WASN'T. Here's the review:

Album Highlights; Peter Piper, Walk This Way, Dumb Girl, It's Tricky, and My Adidas.

Production: Thumbs up.

Lyrics and Subject Matter: Thumbs up.

Originality: Thumbs up.

The Last Word: Another landmark in hip hop. Run-DMC forever made their mark in the world of music with this AWESOME album. If you don't own this album now, you're truly missing out on something classic and special. Strongly recommended.
