This book assists families in setting and achieving the goals necessary for developing eight essential character traits: integrity, faith, a teachable spirit, a servant's heart, self-discipline, joy, compassion, and courage. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great book Oct. 5 2012

Absolutely loved it and would recommend it to anyone. Very well written and helpful. It is not one of those light reads when someone writes something, throws in a couple of jokes about parents being sleep deprived and that's it. No. You'll need to actually sit down and perhaps even take notes. I highlighted a lot of segments just so it would be easier to go back and read the parts that spoke to me the most. Great book.

4.0 out of 5 stars character building July 11 2014

I enjoyed this approach to learning about developing character in your children (and self!). Whereas I often look for character building activities or books to read directly to children this helps one to thinks about the overall picture with each of the traits covered in the book. I appreciate all of the examples from their own lives that John and Susan give.

I haven't finished the book yet, but what I have completed is well written, insightful and very practical. The chapter questions and scripture references bring the lesson home. I am going to recommend it to our bible study group as a possible group study and as a parental reference.
