Product Description

Poise your children for a life of success

Strong character that stands the test of time and circumstances does not develop automatically in children. It happens each day, a little bit at a time. Raising Kids with Character That Lasts shows you how to set and achieve the goals necessary for developing eight essential character traits in your children:

integrity
faith
a teachable spirit
a servant's heart
self-discipline
joy
compassion
courage

With refreshing honesty, true stories, and practical examples, John and Susan Yates share how to use your everyday circumstances as opportunities for character development when raising kids.

"Here's a biblical plan for raising secure, loving children--a book you need to read!"--Gary Smalley and John Trent, PhD

"Solid, practical instruction and inspiration for turning houses into homes."--Bill and Lynne Hybels

John Yates and Susan Alexander Yates are popular speakers at marriage and parenting conferences throughout the country. John is Rector of The Falls Church in Falls Church, Virginia. Susan is the author of several books, including And Then I Had Kids and And Then I Had Teenagers.

HASH(0xa287f2dc) out of 5 stars Great book Oct. 5 2012

Absolutely loved it and would recommend it to anyone. Very well written and helpful. It is not one of those light reads when someone writes something, throws in a couple of jokes about parents being sleep deprived and that's it. No. You'll need to actually sit down and perhaps even take notes. I highlighted a lot of segments just so it would be easier to go back and read the parts that spoke to me the most. Great book.

HASH(0xa287f330) out of 5 stars character building July 11 2014

I enjoyed this approach to learning about developing character in your children (and self!). Whereas I often look for character building activities or books to read directly to children this helps one to thinks about the overall picture with each of the traits covered in the book. I appreciate all of the examples from their own lives that John and Susan give.

I haven't finished the book yet, but what I have completed is well written, insightful and very practical. The chapter questions and scripture references bring the lesson home. I am going to recommend it to our bible study group as a possible group study and as a parental reference.

It took me awhile to get through this all because it's hard for me to find free time to read but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I'm looking forward to applying these principles in my own household. Everything was explained very easily.
