Product Description

Technically, it was Paul and Linda McCartney, since this album was very much a collaboration between them. Some of the material was of the standard we expected ("Monkberry Moon Delight", "The Backseat of My Car", "Uncle Albert/AdmiralHalsey"), but somehow it all seemed entirely too whimsical, as if they'd spent a bit too long isolated on the farm. It was the expectations that were the problem, of course. Paul was simply making a light-hearted album, and we wanted earth-shaking pronouncements. Take Ram on its own terms (i.e., fun), and it's thoroughly enjoyable. --Chris Nickson

5.0 out of 5 stars Maybe Paul's Best Album, Ever Nov. 1 2007
Format:Audio CD
This joyful album has it all. Admiral Halsey is almost like a children tune, Long Haired Lady is pure romance and Ram On is Paul in an acoustic setting produced yet like he's in outer space. It is worthwhile listening to the opener, Too Many People, and study the "FCK the Beatles" picture on the sleeve. Paul was not only having fun but was also being extremely funny.

Unlike some of his other material, this album has aged remarkably well and sounds today fresh as ever. Recorded at his farm in Scotland, one can sense the organic nature of it. He went on making some really good music (also some really bad one too) but he never came close to captivating the originality, which is special since its structure is mostly simple, of what he did on Ram.

This is definitely among his best work, if not his best album ever.

It's a must have. It has passed very well the test of time and I only wish I could write songs like that...
I owned (and own) the LP, and was furiously searching it in CD for some years (I know it's ready available now...), but HOW I SEARCHED FOR THAT ELUSIVE CD!.
Mc Cartney's second solo album is sligthly better then the first ("Mc Cartney" wich is also a MUST HAVE) and contains such imperishable songs as "Dear Boy", but what is more, in a relaxed way the output was above par and Paul sounds at his happiest and easylistening...

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite McCartney Album - RAM May 19 2004
Format:Audio CD
I find it funny but nice that people are discovering this album for the first time in recent years. I wore this album out back in 1971, when I was 11. It is my favorite Paul McCartney album. It has his best hit single - "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey." I remember driving to California from Texas with my parents and this song came on the Western radio stations long before it reached Dallas. We heard it constantly on the radio. "Dear Boy" on the album precedes "Uncle Albert" and it is a perfect segway. If you like RAM, I think you will also like "Red Rose Speedway." RAM is a must for any Beatles/McCartney fan.

3.0 out of 5 stars save your money Nov. 24 2003
Format:Audio CD
If you're trying to decide which edition of _Ram_ to buy, you are strongly advised to stick with the much cheaper domestic version. EMI's 1993 "remastered" editions of the McCartney catalog (with the white covers) have to rank as one of the greatest scams ever foisted on the unsuspecting public. Listening to these discs, it's painfully obvious that they didn't bother doing new transfers from the analog tapes, and just had somebody play with the eq a little bit. Don't believe me? Do your own comparison... you'll want your money back. Unfortuantely, unless you can track down DCC's gold discs, the only albums in the McCartney catalog that have been remastered in the true sense of the word are the 2-disc reissue of _Band on the Run_ and the _Wingspan_ anthology.
Now, carping aside, this is a pretty groovy album. Has its ups and downs, like much of Mac's post-beatle work, but definitely worth a listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thrilling! May 24 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
It took at least 30-40 years for the world to wake up and realize Ram to be the masterpiece it is.
Paul was unjustly criticized in 1971 for releasing what critics termed a "lightweight effort"
But, in all honesty, how does one follow up "Abbey Road"?
The complex arrangements on Dear Boy, the grand orchestrations on Uncle Albert and Back Seat of My Car, the biting satire of Too Many People.
And, the remastering here is so great, it's like listening to "Ram" all over again.
This album is definitely worth revisting, and it's pleasures are many.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ram on on on on on on on on on on on on on ... June 23 2000
Format:Audio CD
This album came out when I was 10 years old, and I bought a half-share in a copy with my best buddy, Joe Schwartz. We were both huge Beatles fans, but we also loved this album, too. The record used to trade hands every week or so, and somewhere not very far along the line, one of us (I think it was him, he thought it was me) put a nick in the groove of the song called "Ram On" (hence the name of my review). My fave song was "Smile Away." I can't say this album (I subsequently bought my own copy in the 80s) held up all that well for me, but it's a sentimental favorite.

3.0 out of 5 stars It was late, but they made up for it. Jan. 14 2014

I gave these guys 1 star before cause my item was about 3 weeks late, but they have been very attentive following up with me and trying to make things right. They have been quite nice. So even though I missed the time to give the gift I ordered, I had a good expierence with this company.

This LP is simply stated...incredible. The remastering crew deserve top honors. I first purchased this back in the 70's and loved it then. Still my favorite PM album and probably a desert island top 10 pick. If you are getting back into vinyl, this should be a must have. Of the 15 LP's I've recently purchased, this stands head and tails above all the rest for dynamics and detail.
