Product Description

Mountain man Smoke Jensen lives by the rules of the frontier. The first rule is: the strongest survive. But when bad breaks, bad weather and bad bovines back Smoke into a corner, he needs something to go right. Instead, he faces the kind of tough luck only a gun can beat...A contract to deliver 3000 head of cattle might just do the trick. But a renegade Cheyenne warrior uses an early winter blizzard to attack Smoke and his out-gunned cowboys. Too bad it's only the first step in journey built to test Smoke's mettle, because some people are hunting a payday of their own - for killing Smoke Jensen. Soon the streets of Laramie will run with blood...

5.0 out of 5 stars Rampage of the Mountain Man, Dec 31 2007

Like other books published since William Johnstone's death this is as good as ever: I only wish the heirs of Ralph Compton had been as careful in selecting someone to complete/prepare his outlines for publishing. the ones now being published in his name are not a patch on his own work. No-one who has been put off by those need fear buying the new William Johnstone books as these are true to his style and quality.

1.0 out of 5 stars obviosly written by the co-author, Jan 21 2012

the style, the shallow characterizations, even the way characters from previous books interact, all differ from the earlier books in the series. might have been barely passable as a story if the previous books hadn't given me certain expectations, but the writing felt amateurish.

I love all the Johnstone books. The only thing I have a problem with is that in books further down the line, there are lead ins in the story that come from the other books, that I may not have read, too much info means I may not want to read that book.
