After the horrors of the Dropsite Massacre, the Raven Guard are trying to survive in the caves and mountains of Isstvan V. Their plight is desperate, and escape from the roaming Chaos Legions seems impossible. Meanwhile Colonel Valerius of the Imperial army begins suffering terrible dreams, believing the Raven Guard to be in trouble. But he faces obstacles of his own in attempting what he believes will be a heroic rescue. About the Author
Gav Thorpe has been rampaging across the worlds of Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 for many years as both an author and games developer. His works include the hugely popular Angels of Darkness, the Last Chancers series and the ongoing epic tale of The Sundering. He is currently laying low in Nottingham and avoiding the authorities, while his mechanical hamster Dennis is hiding out in the Amazonian rainforest where he is worshipped as a god by several lost tribes of natives.

Good audiobook. The narration is a bit cheesy at parts but still done well. The sound effects were definitely a nice touch for further creating appropriate atmosphere. Well written for the most part. Some small bits were a bit melodramatic and way over the top, but over all typical 40K butt kicking. Nice to see a humbling of the Primarchs and a realization of symbiotic relationship between men and Astartes. Far better depiction of a Primarch as a genetically altered super man with a heart, mind and emotions that kicks some butt rather than just a Terminator made flesh.

I bought this because it was part of the Hours Heresy series, I wasn't at all confident I was going to like it. I was very surprised. The way it was read was more like a radio drama than a standard audio book (in which the book is first and then someone reads it). Even the sounds effects work in its favor and add alot to make this something you can listen to while painting or cleaning your house, therein turning a dull activity into one which is both productive and enjoyable.

This was a well received Christmas gift for my son. He was very pleased to get it and thoroughly enjoyed it. He said it was well done and entertaining to listen to while on the road.
