The best headlamp one can buy, Sep 9 2009

I have wasted money buying many other LED headlamps, starting with those little LED that looks good on the package but in the middle of darkness, it will let you down. (finding yourself returning it the next afternoon). Not this Rayovac headlamp, you don't need to have 20 little LEDs on your head, you just need one that lights up half of your backyard. I gave one to a friend who spent a few months in Africa and she said it worked just fine. It is best using rechargeable batteries, and the battery compartment can be a little tight for some rechargeable. (works fine with Sanyo's Eneloop rechargeable batteries). It has 3 settings for the headlamp brightness, from the highest (for walking, or biking) or lowest (reading a book at night), or you can have it blinking, the back of the battery compartment has a nice little red LED which can be set to stay on or blinking. Good for biking or even camping at night (so you can see where your partner is). If you're going to spend time far away from fresh batteries, buy a "AA Battery Solar Panel Charger" from Powerfilm to charge your AA batteries during the day so you won't be in the dark at night. My friend & I use ours to paint her rental property's fence. The weather was too hot to paint during the day (105F+), we were able to paint the whole fence in comfort. Buy one of this for your home, and another one for your car, you will be glad you did.

I grabbed this little guy at Kmart last summer when I realized I forgot my headlamp for a backpacking trip. Rather than being something cheap and disposable as I thought it would be, it is now part of my essential gear. At 100% and 80 lumens you have all the light you'll need in most any situation. The 50% feature is nice too for obvious reasons. I also like the little red light on the back, which makes it great for biking in a pinch, or hiking at night it provides that much more visibility for the person behind you.You can pay a lot more for a headlamp of lesser quality, but this one is a bargain and holds up well.

We use this light daily - really twice daily - on our farm. It's the best and we've tried lots. It is very bright and extremely durable. Also there is a great guarantee on it - totally amazing ! We received the first one as a gift but we had to have a second one because they are so good.
