I have really enjoyed the Reader Rabbit products that I have purchased in the past. When I discovered that there were products for the Wii, I bought this game and the Second Grade game for my older son. The 2nd Grade game is great, however I do not recommend this game for a couple of simple reasons. The main reason is that my son does not have the fine-motor skills required to do the activities. The game is set-up so that the child has to point the Wii remote at incredibly small objects on the screen (such as tiny, incredibly tiny, circles and triangles). It is just too much to expect a small child to accurately aim the remote at the miniscule object and hit the "A" button on the remote simultaneously. Related to this is my second complaint: the numbers and words shown in the game are also too small. My son recognizes his numbers already, but when he saw the number "4" on a rocket ship, he thought it was a "1" because of it's small font size(Keep in mind that children this age do not have fully developed eye sight). Thirdly, the activities take a long time to complete, which does not match my child's attention-span. This game is a good first attempt, but improvements need to be made to the game, to reflect the abilities and attention-span of this age group.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as educational as it claims, Aug 27 2011

Bought this for my 3 year old...I read the other reviews but took a chance. I should've listened to the reviews. There is a total of 5 different activities...1. There is a lighting bug match up game: You match up the bugs to the parents by matching the same designs on the baby and parents. I don't really see how this helps. 2. There is a rainbow falls painting: It asks them to pick a certain color and paint certain shapes. The shapes are too small for the children to color in correctly..and as for the shapes they say, "color a square" but if you color another shape they don't say sorry this is a circle or whatever shape it is. 3. Sparkle Rocket Math: The rocket has a number on it ex. 9 and the children are suppose to get 9 aliens in there. The game doesn't count as they put in each alien in, which would have been a perfect opportunity to count. 4. Mining Caves: They are suppose to pick a bucket with the same letter of the word on the raft. They don't say the word out loud for them, the image is too small and they also don't take the opportunity to make the letter sound. 5. Spark Shape Mining: Finally there is a shape on the back of the train...the child is suppose to match the same shape on the top over and over again. However they don't say what shape it is...another opportunity missed to tell them what shapes there are and which one they are getting. Overall I was disappointed in this game. I have seen better games for this age group for computer games.

1.0 out of 5 stars too difficult to point precisely at object in the game, Dec 25 2011

For this age, it's too difficult to point precisely at object inside the game on the Wii platform. The kid gets frustrated at trying to get precisely on the right spot and when they push the A button, the cursor has moved away from the right spot. Even for an adult, it's quite hard to do it right the first time. This game was made for Pc and is not well adapted for the wii platform.
