For those looking for a general introduction to the new testament, this is not the book you want. Although it does give introductions to each book in the new testament as well as brief introductions to the contextual background to the topic, the main focus of this book is different readings of the new testament: femminist, cross-cultural, etc.Positive aspects: good brief sections on date, author, etc summaries of each book sections offering different readings are interesting Negative: not as thorough as some might like, if this is your first intro to NT book some of Van voorst's own biases show throughout when dealing with author, date, etc
