5.0 out of 5 stars Tearing a strip out of fashion!, Sep 3 2010
By

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Ready to Tear: Paper Fashions of the 60s (Paperback)
As an advertising gimmick for Scott paper products in 1966, an idea was created to offer mail order paper dresses with some coupons from Scott packaging and a dollar(Don Draper would be proud!) For the next couple of years paper dresses were the leading fashion fad. These disposable garments were the perfect expression of the space age generation and in the days before T-shirt art, they became billboards for the Op, Pop, Psychedelic and flower-power art scenes.

This book also gives a great introduction to the historical use of paper in fashion, from Oriental fans to disposable diapers, and a follow up to how non-woven and disposable materials were used by designers like Vivienne Tam and Issey Miyake into the 21st century.

This is a great read!
