So far so good Nov. 20 2011
By HastyFlipper - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I was looking for a more advanced real world development book. This is exactly what I'm looking for. Current patterns and practices with relevant examples. In fact, I wish I had this book for two of my recent projects.

Great resource so far. This is almost a cookbook, but with larger scope projects.

I wish there was a chapter on cloud technology.

Besides that, well done.
Good Book Aug. 9 2012

This book is a good read. It is comprised of 15 MVP's and Microsoft Regional Directors. Each author goes over a problem or situation, educates you and offers their own take on how to solve it. Although, there is not a lot of start to finish code in the book, they do offer a download link to download the source code.
I skipped around chapters and found that Chapter 3, entitled, "Ethical Hacking of ASP.NET," is a very good read. The author, Balassy, who has been the Microsoft Regional Director in Hungary since 2005, does a good job explaining what tools are needed, what concepts are needed to learn, and offers solutions to protect oneself from attacks.
Balassy puts it best when he states, "You can have a house, a castle, or even a well-protected fortress, but if you build it on a swamp, sooner or later it will go down. That's a serious risk you have to deal with. You must know the strengths and the weakness of your favorite developer platform, and you must eliminate the threats that the platform brings in your application."
He goes over Session Management, ASP.NET Authentication attacks, and how to protect against certain attacks.
Although this book is designed for intermediate to experienced users, beginners will definitely gain from this book as well. Over all, I highly recommend Real World .NET C#, and Silverlight.
