Watching not the same as 1992 / Best cast, April 14 2004
This review is from: Real World: New York - Season 1 (Full Screen) (DVD)
I can remeber the first time it's debut in May of 1992. I was a sophomore in high school. I was hooked from then on this was so new and experimental to TV for the quote on quote Gen X generation. I watched it all the way through addicted to these 7 strangers. This DVD collection has all the shows but be aware what made the show episodes so good is the music they put in at certain moments it told a story. That is not in this collection they put some instrumental music over it. So you won't hear Finally by CeCe Peniston at the Roxy with Norman, Heather, & Julie roller skating or wiggle it when Eric is dancing at Julie's dance class. Overall watching this is great to see the episodes again over ten years later but it's not the same as watching back in 92 the feeling of something new & wild. This season was truly the best most interesting castmembers with great story lines. The show isn't the same now unfortunetly going into it's 15 season. So it's worth adding to collection for nostalgic reasons you go back an visit Norm, Heather, Kevin, Julie, Eric, Becky, & Andre at a fun time.

Ok. I love the Real World. Love it. Watched it from season one on . . . religiously until season nine or so. I bought this DVD the day it was released. I could not have been more disappointed. The original soundtrack is gone, replaced by a horrible, grating score (no "Finally" at Roxy?!). The crawl is gone (and some of the best moments--like Eric's scar story--took place during the closing credit sequence). The features (asinine episode intros and a schlocky "pilot") just suck. My advice to fans: Get a DVD recorder and wait for a marathon on MTV.
