Book Description

The electric finale in New York Times bestselling author Lili St. Crow's Strange Angels series!

Nobody expected Dru Anderson to survive this long. Not Graves. Not Christophe. Not even Dru. She's battled killer zombies, jealous djamphirs, and bloodthirsty suckers straight out of her worst nightmares. But now that Dru has bloomed into a full-fledged svetocha - rare, beautiful, and toxic to all vampires - the worst is yet to come.

Because getting out alive is going to cost more than she's ever imagined. And in the end, is survival really worth the sacrifice?

DRU ANDERSON'S NOT AFRAID OF THE DARK. BUT SHE SHOULD BE.

4.0 out of 5 stars I did enjoy the book but in a lot of ways the ending was lacking, Nov 3 2011

Well, I just finished reading Reckoning and the best way to sum up my feelings is well....confusion. Let's get straight to the point I suppose, many of you are probably wondering about the love triangle. Who does Dru end up with? Is it Graves? Or is Christophe? Well, I can't tell you but let's just say it has Dru written all over it. It is one of many loose ends this book has.

If the book was leading off into another book or series, I can understand it and it works. But Lili St. Crow has made it clear this will be the last - and I'm still left with so many questions: What's the blood-bond? What is Dru short for? Is this struggle between the nosferat ever going to end? Or will there always be someone to take the leaders place? In the book the Maharaj were introduced and well it was interesting - but wonders of wonders we are left with yet another loose end. Who are they really? And what relation does Dru really have with them?

I didn't hate the book. As I said I'm confused and still processing but I can say this wasn't the ending I was looking for. It was left too open-ended. I don't like open-endings; they're lazy in my opinion. I just feel all these series I love are going down the drain with the endings. I'm biting my nails wondering how all the rest of my favorite series will turn out. It's like some authors don't understand how important it is to make a good ending, sure it's about the journey but don't forget the ending!!!!!

OK, sorry I'm ranting. There was too much action in the book, and I couldn't keep up with it. The beginning was a bit slow as well. And Dru was left by herself for quite a few chapters which was pretty boring to read. But I do think Dru really matured in this book, she took a stand for herself and you can say she defeated the antagonist herself. I did enjoy reading Reckoning, but it's my least favorite of the series. Basically I did enjoy the first four books in the series and this one as well, this is one of my favorite series but in a lot of ways the ending was lacking - did anything truly get resolved? Even if the ending wasn't great I still believe that the series was worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reckoning by Lili St. Crow, Nov 12 2011

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love this series, therefore, as you can imagine when I learned that this was the last book in Lili's "Strange Angels" series I was heartbroken. I hated the idea of this world ending, of not reading of Dru's kick-buttness, Graves's over-protectiveness (which borders on being cute), and Chris just being there. And when I saw a number of reviews where people were quite outraged by the ending of this book as they felt that the plot was in no way resolved I was further heartbroken. But then I read the book for myself...

While there was not near as much closure as I would have like (if you have read this book you know what I am talking about), I am by no means dissatisfied with how the series ended. Let's face it, if any character is deserving of a break, it's Dru-girl. However, I should make note that I think it would be amazing if one day Lili were to revisit this series, telling it from an adult perspective and answering all of the burning questions that we had as YA readers (pretty please Lili?).

If anything, after finishing this book I am exhausted. I have become so engrossed and involved in these books (this book especially) that I seriously feel like I have fought countless vampires alongside Dru (and as a result of, been covered in acidic black vampire blood), ran at breakneck speed, for my life, from said vampires (avoiding trees while doing so), and have wanted to shake some sense into Graves with his constant back-and-forth/ smoking habit (ditto with Ash and his constant fidgeting). These emotions and feelings are truly a testament of how great of a writer Lili is (there are very few books in my opinion where the characters can literally come off of the pages and make me feel such a wide range of emotions).

All in all, this is a series that I will visit time and time again and I will never tire of it. If you have yet to read this series I highly recommend that you do so- I cannot say enough good things about it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Short on Resolution ..., Nov 1 2011
By Adrianne - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Reckoning: A Strange Angels Novel (Paperback)
If you've read the other four books in the series you know the drill -- Dru basically just wants to be left to her own devices. She wants the Order to stop pressuring her, the vampires to stop gunning for her, Graves to make his move, and Christophe to - well, she's not sure what she wants from Christophe.

In some ways this book delivers. We get an action packed boss battle with Sergej. We get those feelings between Dru and Graves out there on the table. We find out if Christophe really cares for Dru, or if he's got ulterior motives.

Still, in the end this book is something of a let down. It's not that I can't believe it's all over, I just can't believe there's not more. Too many things were left unresolved. I actually looked for a post-epilogue after the epilogue. I was that desperate.

If this was just another installment in the series I'd give it a solid four-star rating and I'd be looking forward to the next book. Only there is no next book. I enjoyed the book while I was reading it, but I'm disappointed with the lack of an ending.

4.0 out of 5 stars It ends more with a slap than a bang..but still worth the read, Nov 2 2011
By T. Sheppard "APennyDreadful" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Reckoning: A Strange Angels Novel (Paperback)
From the very beginning I have pretty much loved this series, so there was a lot of anticipation hanging over this book for me since it's supposed to be the last book in the Strange Angels series.
So, if you've been following along you know Dru has officially bloomed into being a Svotchka, and has (finally) developed all the power and the beauty that she seemed on the cusp of in the previous books.
Having just busted Graves out of Sergej's, They are both on the run with Ash and heading to the one place Dru ever felt safe so that they can all recoup and regroup before Sergej finds them. Which of course is sooner rather than later.

We get plenty of action leading up to and including when Dru finally has her showdown with Sergej and gets to avenge her mother, father and everyone/everything he's taken from her.
And, I'll give Lili St. Crow well earned props. The battle is epic and it is good. There is no let down in how it all shakes down and out, and for that I am pleased.
As for that triangle?
Graves and Dru finally get honest with each other and lay it all on the table with each other.
Graves is easily one of the most compelling characters in this series for me, and I like how he handles himself, and whether he's broken or not. Graves has real heart.
And we finally find out what's the whole story with Christophe. Does have nefarious purposes? Is he being honest with Dru and can she depend on him when she needs to?

But where this book lost a star from me (it almost lost two) was in the slap-you-in-the-face lack-of-resolution at the end.
This book absolutely does not read like the final installment in a series. After I finished it I actually had to go back and reread the last few chapters to make sure I didnt miss anything, and my response was a loud "What the hell kind of ending is that?"
It would have been a five bell ringer for me otherwise.

As a character, I am and have been pretty damn fond of Dru. She's handled everything that's been thrown at her with a maturity that belies her age, exhibited heart wrenching loyalty and a surprising lack of selfishness when it comes the people she cares about...until that last damn chapter.
For me it completely took away from that highly anticipated, wretchedly perfect, heartbreakingly awesome exchange two chapters earlier.
It hurt my heart.

Like another reviewer I was thinking there had to be another epilogue..I mean you cant just leave it like that!

1.0 out of 5 stars So Angry!!!!!!, Nov 5 2011
By Melissa Tabler - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Reckoning: A Strange Angels Novel (Paperback)
I have been a fan of this author's books for years. When I read the first book it was amazing and so were all of the other books. So naturally i was really excited for the last book... so disappointed!!!!! The story line is great, the action is well thought out, the climax very well written, and everything like that was great!!!

Then I got to the ending. The ending was so horrible that i through my copy of the book in the trashcan! I don't want to ruin the ending for any of you who read this book, but I will say that I think this author has gotten to good at writing cliff hangers. And by that I mean the ending of this book did not answer any of the questions you would normally expect to get answered by the last book in a series. It doesn't tell you which boy she ends up with, if there is a treaty with the maharaj, or what happens with the suckers, and so many more!

This book was great until I got to the ending. My recommendation is that if you have read this series to go ahead and read this book, but if you have not started the series to not even bother with this book!!
