Product Description

2010 release from the Hip Hop superstar, the long-awaited follow-up to his Relapse album. Features production from Just Blaze, Jim Jonsin and Mobb Deep's Havoc plus guest appearances from Lil Wayne, Pink and Rihanna. "I had originally planned for Relapse 2 to come out last year," remarked Eminem. "But as I kept recording and working with new producers, the idea of a sequel to Relapse started to make less and less sense to me, and I wanted to make a completely new album. The music on Recovery came out very different from Relapse, and I think it deserves its own title".

The beginning of this review is probably the best time to let you know that I am not a fan of rap music at all (not that I hate it); in fact I'm more of rock n roll/metal type of guy. However I believe that some artist are on a higher level than any of the musical genres and can be appreciated by just about anyone regardless of which genre (s) they are into. I would consider Eminem in this category, for whatever reason even if I am not into rap music I always liked Eminem and his music can appeal to me.

Now that I've said that, lets move on to Eminem's new album, Recovery. Detroit rapper Marshal Matters III achieved major popularity with releases such as The Marshal Matters LP (2000) and The Eminem Show (2002). After 2004's Encore Em decided that perhaps it was time to quit and after a greatest hits album in 2005, Curtain Call : The Hits, he moved on to other things such as producing other artists. Fast forward to 2009 when Eminem makes his return to music with his first album in close to five years, Relapse. Relapse despite some harsh reviews seemed to be generally well received (currently has an average rating of 4 stars here on amazon) and was a success selling close to 5 million copies, Eminem was back. Eminem revealed that he wanted to release two albums in 2009 namely Relapse and Relapse 2, but as time went on he started thinking that the idea of a second part to Relapse made less and less sense to him and that he wanted his next album to be different. So in December 2009 he released Relapse: Refill a re-release of Relapse with an added disc of 7 new songs and moved on. It's been clear that Em was dealing with deep personal problems these past few years and he admits that Recovery is about just that, his recovery and how it does get better.

This is a very strong compilation from Eminem. I really feel that Eminem put alot of energy in making sure that listeners get a great musical cd. Yes, many of his finest songs on this cds have some strong language. However, the songs that have the most daring lyrics are some of the best songs. All of the songs on this Recovery collection are very cutting-edge and daring (in a fun and exciting way). The following five songs stood out for me the most:
1)W.T.P: A very naughty but exciting song about having a party involving people having fun.
2)Space Bound: A very daring but creative love song about being with someone that you truly have. Eminem sings with such strong conviction that he really excels at singing daring love songs like this with such lyrics as: you take my breath away, you're a supernova. I really enjoyed hearing the side of him of what it feels like through his perspective of what it means to be in love. The only caveat I had with this song is that he sings about literally choking the person he loves if she ever thought about leaving him, with the following words: I put both hands on your throat. Yes, I understand that it is just entertainment (also I am sure that Eminem himself does not condone abusing your partners in any form). My husband even playfully joked with me about there being nothing wrong with choking the person you love if they leave you (please understand that my husband was just joking and is actually a sweet person who is very laidback, and does not condone physical or verbal abuse). However, hopefully countless other couples that hear this song are also going to understand that this song is only entertainment and is no way endorsing the act of killing someone who leaves you.

I've always liked Em and always will but let's face facts he hasn't been the same in a while. In this album he talks about everything that he's been experiencing in the last couple years and it's some of his best work ever.

There are no happy friendly songs here nor is there any gangster bravado it's just Em being himself and it works. The samples are awesome but it's really Em's verses that you'll be listening to.

He works with Lil Wayne, Rihanna and Pink in the songs No Love, Love The Way You Lie and Won't Back Down.

But I'll leave it up to his own words to describe it "The new me's back to the old me and homie I don't show no signs of slowin up"

Buy this or at least listen to it if you've ever liked Em and especially if you still do and if you criticize then try to spit a line or ask the man how his day was.

People like to slam everything Eminem has done after The Eminem Show but, as a fan of everything he's done, I really love this album. One thing that struck me was, before I heard the record or any of the singles, I read that this record was dedicated to anyone who was going through a tough time, as I was at the time. This album really helped me confront some personal demons I was facing at the time and got me out the other side as a better person. I'm so grateful that Em allowed himself to be so open and honest with this record, and to share his struggles in a very real way. Some songs on here still bring a tear to my eye.
And it features some of my favorite artists; P!nk on Won't Back Down, Rihanna on Love the Way You Lie and Ozzy Osbourne on Going Through Changes.
