In Red Is Best, Kathy Stinson takes a simple idea--the clash between the imaginative world of the toddler and the commonsensical world of parents--and develops it with humour and feeling. The enduring popularity of this understated picture book (first published in 1982) is no doubt due to its avoidance of the saccharine language and contrived story lines of so many picture books for this age group. But it also lies in Stinson's understanding of the toddler mind and in illustrator Robin Baird Lewis's lighthearted depiction of the feisty Kelly (who could be a younger sister of that famous 1950s picture-book heroine Eloise). The conclusion to Red Is Best distils toddler logic perfectly. "I like red," Kelly says, "because red is best." (Ages 2 to 4) --Lisa Alward --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

A mini book!,

I was happy with how quickly this arrived but did not know this was going to be a mini book. It should be made more obvious that this is a mini book to the buyer.

I can't believe it was a mini book. I wish I would have read the other reviewers before ordering it and paid attention to the size. Waste of money.

Disappointed in a miniature.,

This review is from: Red is Best (Paperback)
I was very happy with how quickly the book arrived. This was one of my childhood favourites, but my excitement was severely dulled by the fact that this book is a ninth the size of the original! How can I enjoy and be immersed in the book when I can hardly see the detail? Very disappointed. Now I'm reluctant to re-buy this in the larger size because this book feels like a waste.
