Red Garden is a 22 episode mystery/horror anime that is aimed for teenagers. The beginning starts off as though the episodes will be repetitive with the four girls fighting in every episode. However, that isn't the case, and the later episodes turn more interesting. Eventually, we see new characters and wonder what they are up to, only to discover their motives and identities later on.
I felt the ending was incomplete; I would've liked seeing where the main characters would end up and what would happen to all those that were affected. There are songs that are sung by the characters in the beginning episodes, but they soon stop. What I don't like is that since the characters and Americans, they aren't drawn very nicely.
Kate, Rachel, Rose, and Claire are students that attend a private school on Roosevelt Island, New York City. One morning they awaken to feel restless and cannot seem to recall anything from the previous night. After, they discover that their classmate, Lisa, was found dead.
For unknown reasons, the four girls are drawn together by butterflies, as though they were summoned. They are approached by Lula and JC, who tell the girls that they are already dead and now must work for them if they do not want to disappear completely.
With curses and monster-looking humans, this anime is sure to be an exciting mystery to watch.
The four girls involved have completely different personalities. The anime also focuses on their lives for quite a bit. We learn that Kate Ashley is having difficulty maintaining her position in the group called Grace after the loss of her closest friend, Lisa. Rachel Benning, a popular girl, finds that she is becoming more distant with her group of friends and seems mentally unstable. Claire Forrest is independent and poor, since she ran away from home and needs to work to survive. Rose Sheedy is a shy girl that must take care of her two younger siblings because her mother is hospitalized.
