Did you know that most authors get a web site because they feel they have to? To many authors, it's sort of a fad along the lines of torn jeans or that faded Stones t-shirt. Read the first page

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books on book marketing Oct 22 2009
By Laura Fabiani TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
Red Hot Internet Publicity is the kind of book you must read using a highlighter and post-it notes. Warning: You will spring into action less than five pages into the first chapter. And it won't stop. Sansevieri's book promotion advice is meant for you to get out there and do it. She expertly leads you by the hand and shows you the way.

Red Hot begins with a compelling introduction explaining exactly why the book marketing industry has shifted because of the Internet and why authors need to understand this explosive change. This grabbed me immediately because most people, including authors, still have the notion that author events and book signings are all one has to do to get one's book noticed. This is no longer the case.

If you're not Internet market savvy, you will be once you've studied this book. I say studied because this isn't the kind of book one can read once and put away. It is a loaded resource book that packs a powerful punch. And best of all, it's up-to-date because the latest copy is a newly revised edition. And because of the Internet's ever-changing, expanding nature, this would be expected of a quality book about Internet publicity.

As an author with a Web site and two blogs, and active in the social networking world, I still learned an amazing amount of new stuff. As a matter of fact, I realized how much I didn't know. Sansevieri covers a multitude of topics including: how to build a Web site (these chapters had me scrambling to my computer, making simple but effective changes that enhanced and improved my site considerably); keywords, search engines, online selling, and how to generate traffic to your Web site (more scrambling to the computer); everything you might possibly want to know about blogs, blogging, videos, and podcasting ( I wasn't doing too bad in this area, but I learned great tips about working in blogosphere); social media, especially Twitter (if you haven't embarked on this bandwagon, you'll most likely do so after reading this section); virtual book events (I absolutely loved this part of the book!); virtual networking with articles, autoresponders, and email newsletters; ebooks, and so much more.

The chapters are short and to the point, and Sansevieri makes skilful use of bullet points, boxes and numbered points in articles, rendering the book easy to read and to search for specific topics. In addition, the book is sprinkled with sections that cover quick tips, Did You Know?, quotes, statistics, links, and tons of helpful tidbits. Speaking of links, I can't wait to visit all the recommended sites, and there are many. Some information is repeated, but I certainly didn't mind as topics overlap. The more one hears or reads of something the better it will be retained.

Bottom line: this book is worth every penny and more. If you're an author who wants to get your book out there, don't look any further. Read this book today and start selling your book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing and shallow Jun 27 2009
By trimax - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The book is very disappointing because the information it contains is very shallow. You could probably find much better information searching on Google than spending money and time reading the book. The book only gives you very basic information, for example on page 19, "... if you have a book and an audience that resonates with yellow, then you might want to have enough yellow on your site to "speak" to them without overwhelming them with a yellow..." Throughout the book, there are a lot of these obvious logic. The key point is that the book does not tell you, nor teach you, when or what "yellow" is enough for the audience. It tells you to use keywords when writing copy but it does not explain HOW and to choose them nor how to match the text with the best keywords.

Also, for a book that has only 190 pages of content, 20 pages are links to websites? Some of these linked sites are even stuck in time and has not been updated since 2005!!...

Of course the book might be helpful to someone who is totally ignorant about the web. However, if you know how to use Google (or even Amazon's book search engine) then I recommend that you find another book that contains substance because this book clearly does not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Taking Control as an Artist in the World of Self Promotion Jun 3 2007
By Grady Harp - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Penny C. Sansevieri is a no nonsense thinker and writer. Beginning her career as an author ('Candlewood Lake', 'The Cliffhanger' etc) she faced the beast of competition in the publishing world, and instead of caving in, she took control, learned all the ins and outs of getting books published, and shared that hard won information and experience in such highly successful books as 'Get Published Today: An Insider's Guide to Publishing Success' and 'From Book to Bestseller: An Insider's Guide to Publicizing and Marketing Your Book!'. Now she has synthesized all of that information in this newest book that is the most complete guide to marketing books on the Internet available.

Sansevieri does not waste the reader's time with puffery or examples of her own successes. Instead she opts to jump right to the essentials, giving a nod to the importance of the Internet as a tool of communication and commerce. She doesn't merely suggest such valuable skills as creating a website for authors to attract attention, she carefully and very thoughtfully provides exact guidelines for squeezing the most benefits from the time involved in design, wording, linking, blogging, networking, virtual book events (and in the age when bookstores become less friendly as opportunities for authors to read and sell their books during spicy evenings, this is a unique concept) - all the techniques she has mined and understands thoroughly.

Sansivieri's book RED HOT INTERNET PUBLICITY contains more useful web resources, addresses of the best blog sites and web design and tool sites, and pieces of sound advice in this brief 200 pages than any on the market today. She is the epitome of a user-friendly teacher and expert and her writing contains not only valuable information and insights but wit to boot! For all authors in search of the keys to the value of Internet promotion, this excellent book will be an exceptional value. Grady Harp, June 07
