Enjoyable High Fantasy Adventure,

After watching low-grade b-movies like "Deathstalker" and "Barbarian Queen" it was refreshing to watch a high quality fantasy production like "Red Sonja". The writing, directing, acting, extras, set design, costumes, hair design, photography, FX and music are all superior to such low-grade films. Yet when I look at reviews of this film all I see is "Spectacularly silly" and "Hilariously awful". I'd agree that "Red Sonja" is not a perfect film: the story could have added more character development and Nielsen's performance could have been more convincing. But I'd still argue that it stands far above the majority of low-budget fantasy flicks out there.I'm not sure what the reason was for the over-reaction of Hollywood critics regarding this film. Nielson was nominated for Raspberry awards for worst actress and worst new star, and shockingly Sandahl Bergman was nominated for worst supporting actress for her enigmatic performance as Queen Gedren. These people should have seen the "Deathstalker" films! See what I mean about overreaction? The film might have disappointed people's high expectations but that doesn't make it an "hilariously awful" film. Maybe their gripe was that Schwarzenegger wasn't the star. Oh well. "Red Sonya" is a fun and entertaining film for fans of sword & sorcery, and outside "Conan the Barbarian" (with Schwarzenegger) I'm not sure it gets any better than this. It's imaginative, lively and fun, with likeable characters and high adventure. Tall tail balances well with gritty realism. Drama is balanced with humour. Battle scenes are well done and the swords are awesome. Watch and enjoy!

Brigitte and Arnold cut up,

You need to prepare you self for this movie; move the furniture out of the way and send the cats out of the room. Or they maybe victims of sword play.Yep you guessed it Arnie (Hercules in New York) is back and he is talking. Toss in Brigitte Nielson and a sprinkle of the evil Sandahl Bergman. And you have an afternoon of fun and revenge. Seems there is the talisman (some glowy plastic thing) that only women can touch. If it gets too much light it will destroy the world. It is captured by a dark queen with great ambition. Red Sonja, who hates men, must team up with Kalidor (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to make sure the talisman is properly disposed of before it destroys the world. They have many trials and tribulations along the way. Will they succeed?

My Fav movie As a Child,

We used to rent this movie every week because my brother and I were enthralled by it. From a similiar era as Conan The Barbarian (also with Arnold), the movie continues the development of Arnold as an actor and gives Brigitte one of her rare movie appearances. A definite cult classic, which everyone should see at least once in their life! :)
