3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting film, could use more impact, July 3 2009

This review is from: Redbelt Bilingual (DVD)
Guess I expected more from David Mamet, especially given the terrific preview trailer - unfortunately, too much plot is revealed and the audience must wait for it all to happen. The film, not surprisingly is well-written and interesting, to a point. But for anyone expecting a martial arts action film, this one focuses more on the character's philosophies and thought processes. The last third (?) is somewhat anti-climactic. Mamet's expected 'twists' come across as routine, and the much anticipated fight finale is too little too late. It lacks the intended impact. The dvd's bonus material which includes a number of good featurettes may be more satisfying to fight buffs.
