Now, for the first time, Ted Rogers tells the story of how he built Rogers Communications into one of the largest companies in Canadian history--and in only one generation. The tragic, premature death of his father, radio pioneer Ted Rogers Sr., left his family with little except the burning desire to reclaim what they had lost. From an early age, Ted was fascinated with radio and television; he once strung wires out of his dorm room to a roof-top antenna to bring in U.S. programming to Toronto before the city had any stations. As a law student, he invested everything he had in an FM station, buying CHFI when only five percent of the market actually owned an FM radio.
Rogers is characteristically frank about his successes and his failures. Over the years, he has faced challenges to his domain, sometimes risking so much that it nearly cost him everything. Each time, however, he has returned stronger than ever. Written in a highly accessible style, Relentless will appeal as much to Main Street as to Bay Street. Filled with backroom deals, on-air battles and the often outrageous exploits of this communications visionary, Relentless will ring true as the most fascinating business memoir of the year.

Relentless--recommended reading,
By
This review is from: Relentless: The True Story Of The Man Behind Rogers Communications (Hardcover)
Relentless passes all the test for a first-rate business biography, and with flying colours. It is accessible and readable for non-business readers, informative and filled with intriguing surprises about this controversial, ground-breaking innovator. Ted Rogers' candour and fearlessness come through on these pages, and Robert Brehl captures his voice with consummate professional skill.

Ted Rogers: business deity made flesh in "Relentless",

This review is from: Relentless: The True Story Of The Man Behind Rogers Communications (Hardcover)
"Relentless," Ted Rogers' official authorized biography, is to my knowledge the last work on this notable Canadian businessman released prior to his death late last year. As such, it stands as the final word not just to Mr. Rogers' business acumen and entrepreneurial savvy, but also to his human side: from the tramautic -- and bloody -- eyewitness accounting of his father's death to the humourous anecdotes from his days at Upper Canada College, from his friendship with John Diefenbaker to his dogged fight to regain the former glory of his family's broadcasting empire, the man that was Ted Rogers is revealed in the first person.
Veteran business journalist Robert Brehl, who befriended Mr. Rogers during his years covering Canada's telecommunications industry, lends the deft touch of a professional wordsmith to this testament to a giant of Canadian enterprise, making it easy to read and accessible to all. If you're looking to understand what motivated the man behind one of Canada's most successful communications companies to work as hard as he did -- and take the risks he's famous for taking -- this book is highly recommended.

Excellent book on an important Canadian,
By Art Chamberlain (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Relentless: The True Story Of The Man Behind Rogers Communications (Hardcover)
This book is a well-written first-hand account of the life of a Canadian icon. Ted Rogers has succeeded, against long odds, in making his name synonymous with the most coveted devices of our age -- cellphones, Internet access and cable TV service.
Over the past few decades it has often seemed that Ted was about to collapse under a mountain of debt, but he has managed to survive and thrive. Now, with his health a serious problem, it is timely to have a book that chronicles the ups and downs in his own words.
