Finally, Basement Jaxx's long-awaited full-length, Remedy, has been issued in the U.S. It's aptly titled, to be sure: the production duo's record is a remedy to the dull, faceless house and techno that populates dance floors. The duo are unrepentantly pop savvy, bringing vocals and lyrics to their unique blend of electro, house, hip-hop, salsa, and soul. It's a weird combo, but like the best of all pop songs, Basement Jaxx tracks stick like putty to the ears within a few listens. In fact, you may feel that you've already heard much of Remedy when you give it a spin on your CD player. With their boisterous samples, vocal hooks, and funked-out, catchy bass lines, the songs "Rendez-vu," "Yo-Yo," and "Red Alert" seem like familiar friends, rather than just the next big thing. --Tricia Romano

4.0 out of 5 stars Yeah......Yeah Jan. 14 2004

I've really gotten into these tunes. Not necessarily for their dance orientation, but I've also found a British group, who know how to mix it up successfully. My favorite is "Same Old Show". What a mix!!!! I've taken this tune during my own dj'ng, and regardless of how I remix it, or edit it, it still has been a hit with everyone. Yes, I definately recommend this cd to anyone who enjoys dance music, but likes a mix also. I'm checking out other releases, and will definately review them later.

I went on a backpacking trip of Europe, and I kept hearing this cool song everywhere! Red Alert is the jam! So I had to get the CD, which I did, in England, right before I hoped on the plane back home. I am so glad I bought this CD! I love all the tracks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something different... July 26 1999
Format:Audio CD
Finally, the Basement Jaxx cd was released. It was one of the most expected releases of 1999, and it's worth the money. A revolutionary turning point in the electronic music style. No cold electronic beats and spacy sounds that makes techno & house so unoriginal. This is the dance music we all waited for: hiphop, mambo and disco influences are mixed all through the album, with a little touch of experimental music. On the floor everybody!!! If you thought electronic music isn't danceable but artificial... buy this. It's 100% fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like this try..... July 26 1999

'Remedy' is quite simply the best dance album produced in the last year. They should definitely win the Mercury Music Prize for it. If they don't I'll eat my woolly hat ! If you are into their sound, try these too : Les Rythmes Digitales - 'Dark Dancer' on Wall Of Sound Astralwerks; Groove Armada - 'Vertigo' on Jive. And shake your bootie...!

1.0 out of 5 stars Basement Jaxx disappoint! July 22 1999

Format:Audio CD
I was really looking forward to getting hold of Basement Jaxx' Remedy immediately after its release this summer, but I'd never thought they would end up making such a complete failure! It's crap music, screwed up tunes, poor samples and just a mockery of what House Music is all about!
Buy their earlier "Atlantic Jaxx Recordings - A Compilation" if you're interested in hearing some of their better tunes. Those songs are the ones that made the press hype these guys.

This debut album offers every genre of dance you could possibly imagine. There's techno, raggae, funk and even flamenco! I guarantee you won't be taking this CD out of your player for a long time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Didn't Quite Live Up to the Hype June 24 1999
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Having heard the singles "Rendez Vu" and "Red Alert", I was pumped when I was able to get my hands on this import. All the hype from the Winter Music Conference and all the various magazines that were touting the Jaxx as the next Daft Punk had me salivating at the mouth. The CD is excellent, though there a few filler tracks. It is good to listen to all the way through, but the last song is skippable. I prefer a CD to have a solid closer, giving you incentive to listen to the album in its entirety. Way too many down tempo tracks. An excellent album to listen to, but I was expecting a lot of the songs to be a lot more geared toward the dancefloor. Wait for it to become available domestically in August.
