Product Description
On February 10, 1940, 16-year-old Helen was arrested by Russian soldiers on her way to school in Kremenetz, Poland. From there, she would survive a forced-labor camp in Siberia, followed by an exodus to an orphanage in India after her family's release, where she would spend the rest of the war years trying to keep her surviving siblings together as they recovered from the ravages of slow starvation and deprivation. Reunited with her father in England after World War II, Helen would subsequently travel to Saskatchewan, where her indomitable spirit would again allow her to withstand the pain and difficulties of life on a prairie farm. In the midst of degradation, the loss of human spirit, heart and hope, there were moments of courage and determination, unexpected kindness, and even a few miracles.
