William Gibson meets a photocopier., Jan 6 2003

This review is from: Remix (Paperback)
Sorry, but this book is so filled with elements "borrowed" from William Gibson novels it's ridiculous. Medical millipedes, fractal blade knives, a character called 'Stepping Razor', there's even a character named Gibson. The list goes on. All that aside, the story is just bad. A whole lot of "Wow, real hip techno-futuristic high tech low lifes and gadgets", but not much story. Some story lines seemed to have been added, forgotten, then remembered near the end as an afterthought (Passion, for example). I really wanted to like this book. If you want William Gibson, then read William Gibson.

... you will ADORE remix by grimwood. it's cyberpunk tarantino, man. witty, keen, superb, fast-laned,... like if author was on total speed in the course of writing. you will feel like this too, when you first put your hands on this astonishingly fresh sf novel with so many twists. wasn't able to put it down, breathless. for all fans of this genre - i also highly recommend noir by jeter (for more demanding readers) and china mieville's perdido street station. enjoy your summer sf freaks!

Grimwood - a *very* fine talespinner, Mar 17 2002
This review is from: Remix (Paperback)
I have been wondering when someone would take up the Gibson era and provide us with the continuation of what we all know and believe to be the 'real' future - that darkly dangerous, shrivelingly exciting manic world - and Jon has. In fact, as someone else has pointed out, he's done it better. Gibson opened the door, Jon drags us kicking and screaming (but like the thrill ride folks scream - in warped joy) into that razor spiked world. This is not Gibson remixed (no pun), this is Grimwood, and stands very much alone and of itself. reMix is an excellent tale. Get it. Read it. See for yourself. He's got it down. My thanks to Jon for that.
