Book Description

Winning the Tug-of-War for Future Generations This book is a passionate presentation of what our society is producing in children. The authors first present a "code blue" alarm for the need of paramedic and ambulance for at-risk children; then they provide some practical suggestions about how to save the children. The book contains statistics, stories, societal illustrations and hope-filled solutions, calling the reader to become what God has always called the Church to be: a change agent for the spiritually needy in every strata of society. Given the realities of our world catastrophes on every news broadcast, an epidemic of fragmented families, a severely coarsened society we can still make a difference in the lives of children by teaching them to value the right things. To do that, we must become a strategic force in the lives of the children we influence by counteracting the devastating forces that would destroy them. The authors provide specific suggestions for what the church can do as a whole and what we can do as individual believers to bring about these changes. The Only Real Failure Is Not Getting Back Up!

After facing up to some of her own struggles and shortcoming, Carole Lewis, the national director of First Place, gave herself a challenge: She would lose the excess weight and rededicate herself for a minimum of four months to believe God, to trust God and to obey God. Back on Track chronicles her 16-week spiritual and weight-loss journey with highlights from her diary of temptations, failures, victories and tips she learned along the way. Did Carole walk the walk and finally lose those extra pounds she ™d been hoping she would lose for years? When she stumbled, did God pick her up and point her in the right direction? Her honest, heartfelt answers are guaranteed to surprise and inspire one and all.

For church leaders, prayer warriors, and Christians who want to see the bigger picture of what God is doing in the world right now, this follow-up to "Churchquake!" overlooks denominational barriers, asking one and all to join together for the ultimate fulfillment of God's purposes. This book of 60 daily readings is the result of one-on-one conversations between basketball's legendary coach and teacher, John Wooden, and Jay Carty, former Laker and one-time Wooden assistant. Each of the two-page readings contains life wisdom from the coach, application and reflection from Carty, and a daily Scripture reading

4.0 out of 5 stars Redeemed by a great Gospel presentation, May 30 2011

This review is from: Rescued (Paperback)
A friend of mine recommended this book so I ordered it. The first half of the book was interesting, although seemed rather shallow. I love seeing theology in fiction work and I wasn't seeing it here. The last half of the book was gripping. I LOVED the way the gospel message was woven through the end of this story. I had to keep reminding myself that this is fiction (the story, not the Gospel). I had been a false-convert in the church for many years and was soundly saved after being presented with God's Law which made me realize that I had a wrong picture of God in my mind...a God that wouldn't punish sin, a God that would look at my works and let me into His heaven. When I finally saw myself the way God did is the moment He saved me. This book reminded me so much of my experience of God's generous grace. I am being cautious not to give anything away in this story, but remember, some of it is fiction. Remember the verse: Hebrews 9:27 "And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment" We don't get a second chance.

This is a wonderful evangelistic tool, so believers, stock up on this one for your skeptic friends and family. I would also recommend that anyone who professes to be a Christian to read this. Allow your heart and mind to be opened and if the Holy Spirit convicts you, repent and trust in Christ. For the soundly saved, you will find this to be a huge encouragement and hopefully it will spur you on to share the Law and gospel with the lost and dying people in this world.

I would love to see this as a movie and would love to see Kirk Cameron playing the part of Jeff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatly affected, Dec 21 2006
By M. S. E Cocking - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Rescued (Hardcover)
In the first dozen pages I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book. With lines like "A viselike grip clamped down on his heart like it was no more solid than a damp washcloth" And "He clutched at his thorax and stumbled". My husband asked what your thorax was?! And the many jumps back in time, and then to a time before the jump back in time......

But the more I read the more I couldn't put the book down. I read it in 3 days.

It made me cry several times. It has a powerful message. And it really makes you examine you walk with God and whether it really is as the Word of God says.

I intend to read this book again within 6 months, and perhaps again at intervals to remind myself to examine how I'm walking.

Get this book. It will make you think deeply.

5.0 out of 5 stars Examining yourself just a little more closely., Jan 31 2007
By Wolfe Moffat - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Rescued (Hardcover)
Ok, you take a look at the cover, and you see the hand in the middle of a raging sea. You might even wonder if this is "Hunt For Red October" for Christians. I wouldn't say so, even though there is death, terror, mayhem, and even a submarine involved in this! It is however, a closer look. A closer look at how we live our lives, and why. It a grim reality for those who might screw around with their salvation. It might actually encourage others to take Christ more seriously. And after what The Bible addresses, along with the message this delivers, you'd have to be screwed up not to at least acknowledge what's going on. There is a real Heaven, and there is a real Hell. There is a real Jesus Christ, and there is a real Satan. We're going SOMEPLACE after we die... Heaven or Hell. This also might encourage certain people (who certainly know who they are, I'VE been one at times) who use prayer and scripture as nothing more than a punch line to knock it off. You don't take God's word out of context, because Eternity isn't a game. King me, check mate, you sunk my battleship, that's fine on Earth, but not in regards to Christ, especially after He paid the ultimate price.

But we are taken aboard a ship, along with a father and a son. And what starts out as a thrilling tour, adventure, or whatever you signed up for... it turns into something a lot more serious. Alan Rockaway thinks he is a GREAT pastor. Hey, his congregation thinks he is a great pastor. His 2nd WIFE thinks he is nothing short of a great pastor. His son, Jeff? Well, you'll certainly learn more about Jeff if you choose to pick this up. Alan's first wife, Terri? Well, she prays. And in the midst of all turmoil, Alan's congregation is on the edge of their seats. Will their pastor finally see his great day in glory? They didn't expect that it would be such a short trip. Is this the end, or could it be the beginning? Just shut up, and let the Storyteller do his job. Once you crack this open, you'll WANT to experience the story, and the pages will flip rather quickly.

I was given this as a Christmas present because I enjoy Mark Andrew Olsen. Now I'd like to see what John Bevere has to offer as well. It is said in the end that the words of this were prayed over in light of God's word. After reading it, I believe it! And it wasn't something pushy either. At times it seemed down right simplistic! But stick with it. I can see why the spotlight reviewer wanted to give this 10 stars. This is another chance to examine your own life. And if you see something that needs fixing, then it is up to you. And it is also up to you to trust in God and the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ. Work like this deserves a warm embrace, and I'd offer it in a heartbeat!
