Review

"...this publication provides a comprehensive and up-to-date reference tool for the reservoir engineer or reservoir engineering student. It covers reservoir fluid behaviour and properties, including laboratory analysis and reservoir fluid flow. It provides a guide to predicting oil reservoir performance through analysis of oil recovery mechanisms and performance calculations, and explains the fundamentals of reservoir engineering and their application through a comprehensive field study. Two new chapters have been added to this second edition, covering the principles of water flooding and vapour-liquid phase equilibria. - Petroleum Review, May 2002

Product Description

The job of any reservoir engineer is to maximize production from a field to obtain the best economic return. To do this, the engineer must study the behavior and characteristics of a petroleum reservoir to determine the course of future development and production that will maximize the profit. Fluid flow, rock properties, water and gas coning, and relative permeability are only a few of the concepts that a reservoir engineer must understand to do the job right, and some of the tools of the trade are water influx calculations, lab tests of reservoir fluids, and oil and gas performance calculations. Two new chapters have been added to the first edition to make this book a complete resource for students and professionals in the petroleum industry: Principles of Waterflooding, Vapor-Liquid Phase Equilibria.Covers reservoir fluid behavior and properties, including laboratory analysis and reservoir fluid flowProvides a guide to predicting oil reservoir performance through analysis of oil recovery mechanisms and performance calculationsExplains the fundamentals of reservoir engineering and their practical application through a comprehensive field study

3.0 out of 5 stars Mistakes in the text-typo needs serious reviews, Nov 20 2009

I don't have much to say other than; The author or publisher should be informed that there are lots of typo errors in the text. This had gotten students into hot arguments and screaming at the top of their voices. Errors had being repeated from previous editions to the current edition.
My candid situation is I will like a corrected copy sent to me after all correction is properly done. Let the author know this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Old reservoir engineering, Oct 26 2003
By

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Reservoir Engineering Handbook (Hardcover)
I have read the book and found that it basically covers the state of the art of "classical" reservoir engineering of about the 60's or 70's, with some material taken from papers published in the 80's and 90's. It is outdated to a great extent.

The virtue of this book is that it reviews a wide range of topics like MBEs, IPRs, basic reservoir fluid properties, etc. Good for undergrads taking courses in reservoir engineering.

The statements at the back side of the cover (second edition) are misleading. This book does not contain "all of the information and insight a reservoir engineer must have to do the job right", nor is it "the complete resource for students and professionals in the petroleum industry". This book is only at the introductory level and there are many other books like Dake and Craft & Hawkins which cover almost the same topics with more detail.

If it is an extensive reference book what you are looking for, I would rather recommend the Petroleum Engineering Handbook. It is more comprehensive and can cost you about the same price or less (if you are an SPE member).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book to find all basic topics on reservoir engineering, Sep 21 2002

I've seen that all topics on reservoir engineering have been covered in sufficient detail and very systematically. I strongly reccommed the book to those looking for a starting book on reservoir engineering and to those who, after a while, got lost among SPE papers and specialized books to come back to the backbone of the issue.
