Five stars plus for Elizabeth but, unfortunately, two for the book.,
By The Mad Hatter "Seagull Books" (Prince Edward Island, Canada) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Resilience: Reflections on the Burdens and Gifts of Facing Life's Adversities (Hardcover)
After seeing Elizabeth's inverviews with Larry King and Oprah, it still boggles my mind in regard to Elizabeth Edward's true intent in writing this book. What is the real underlying reason Elizabeth felt it was necessary to write the book particulary after so many years have passed, and what purpose can it possibly serve to dredge up old wounds? If her marriage is as cherished as she says it is, her love for her husband as strong and steadfast, why would any woman want to rehash her husband's affair publicly in a book for the rest of the world to read? Goodness knows, the media did enough of that at the time.Elizabeth has interested me ever since she was diagnosed with breast cancer just two days before my own. Hers metasized in 2007 and has since been diagnosed as terminal. My breast cancer metastized in 2008 and has also been diagnosed as terminal, so this part of Elizabeth I can well relate to and understand only too well. The emotions and stress of living with terminal cancer each and every can seem like a roller coaster ride that never ends. We learn from cancer, too. One learns to appreciate the simple things in life, treasure each sunrise, and value those who are dear to us. However, at this point in our life, most of us would not wish to revisit our husband's indiscretions in a book. The loss of the Edward's son, Wade, was already discussed in the book, "Saving Graces" and, tragic as the event was, that book came across as more of a name dropper than anything else. Overall, "Resilience" does not tell us anything more about Elizabeth than we already know. One cannot help but come away from the book feeling her underlying intent for writing it was either out of enormous hurt, i.e., a means of "getting back" at her husband for his infidelity, or the book is simply a way of dealing with her own personal grief by putting it down on paper as a means of healing what may be forgiven but never quite forgotten. The book is so short, it is almost like a journal. In any case, putting the book aside, my heart and prayers go out to Elizabeth and her family. May your remaining time, however long or short, be filled with peace, love and happiness.

This review is from: Resilience: Reflections on the Burdens and Gifts of Facing Life's Adversities (Hardcover)
I found this book very engaging and heartbraking at times, that one woman should endure so much in her life. Yet her endurance is not over as Elizabeth Edwards is terminally ill, but she shows a spirit and strength that I think few possess. I would recommend this book to anyone who feels they need inspiration for their own journey.

This review is from: Resilience: Reflections on the Burdens and Gifts of Facing Life's Adversities (Hardcover)
Thoughtful, poignant and well written - a book review of Elizabeth Edwards's ResilienceElizabeth Edwards deserves praise for her courage in allowing the reader to enter her personal domain of suffering several of life's tragedies. She is kind to share her experiences with others as they can benefit from her feelings in regard to loss. A professional lawyer by trade, Edwards, nevertheless, writes beautifully with poignancy and poetic eexpression. Her husband, despite one indiscretion remains a good man who has served his country well. So has Elizabeth, through her life's work and her generous autobiography.
