About the Author
William C. Dietz is the bestselling author of HALO: The Flood and Hitman: Enemy Within, plus thirty other science fiction novels, some of which have been translated into German, Russian, and Japanese. He grew up in the Seattle area, served as a medic with the navy and the Marine Corps, and graduated from the University of Washington. Dietz worked as a surgical technician, news writer, college instructor, television producer, and director of public relations for an international telephone company prior to embarking on a full-time writing career.

I am a fan of the PS3 games, so I thought I would grab the book as a filler between the two games, and I am glad I did. It really drops you in the middle of war torn America, following the fictional time line setup from the first game, and then bridging the gap to the second game.
I hope there will be more books in the future, I read this book in 2 days as I did not want to put it down. It had good character development, as you would feel the pain of the heroes, and wish pain upon the villains (not just the Chimera).
Even if someone was not a video game fan, they could still read and enjoy this book as it could stand on it's own.

I like to read on a long road trip. I stopped by Chapter's on my way out of town and the front cover of this book caught my eye. I did not realize this book was based on a video game.
I am a grandmother and over 50. But I can truthfully say this was a damn good book and had a great plot. I read it on my breaks at work and late at night when I should have been sleeping. I didn't want to put it down. I'm am going to look at the other books by this author.

Excellent book!! Enjoyed the many facets the story offered and the spirit of the American characters was balls to the wall. This book sets the stage for books 2 & 3, I hope. It would be a shame to let the story end like this cause you just know Lt. Hale will recruit his adopted sister Susan to smoke some Chimera butt!!
